Do you have or know of a quest that is running outside of /quests/ and you want to link it over here? Post any cross-links for quests not directly on this board here. Advertising off-board quests elsewhere on the board will generally result in a ban except in special circumstances.

/monster/ always has tons of quests.

They even have a thread on quest management.

Okay, I'd like to ask all of you to read this thread and return to it often. This is to encourage you as a potential QM, help you avoid pitfalls and show that running a Quest is not so complicated when you know what you're doing.

I don't know how many of you are survivors from >>>/qu/ (BO edit: a place for big memes) and how many are newcomers.

If you're one of the former, you may remember we had a resource thread sticky there.

Blatantly speaking, in my opinion it was shit. It tried to be informative, but failed to serve its purpose. Barely anyone bothered to even look it up. No one added any advice of their own or discussed what was posted. It all went to general QTG meta where it was drowned by drama, skub and "dead board" shitposting. The thread didn't expand and we failed to build a coherent and useable library for writefags and QMs.

I'd say this time we should do better than that.

I've compiled some stuff from old /qu/ sticky and added some of my own. I skimmed through all of it and did a little outline to tell you what you can expect and how useful can it be. I'm leaving this open so you can contribute advice, materials, informative images and whatever too. I'll add it to the OP if it sounds good enough.

Asking for questing/writing advice, discussion of ideas, roleplaying and quest mechanics belong here. Meta discussion about the board itself does not, and such posts will be deleted to avoid clutter.

Remember it's all about making it fun to read and write. Follow these guides only if they help you, and in a way you see fit. Don't try to make a masterpiece, just try to do your best.

My personal advice is STOP THINKING ABOUT DOING IT AND JUST FUCKING DO IT. So what if you mess it up? You're on an anonymous board, one in its infancy on top of that. There is no drama or witch-hunts here Post too long. Click here to view the full text.

Updated with "Inspiration" section, including Cabal's gigantic Quest idea orphanage. Now you don't even have to come up with ideas yourself to run something.

You are a warrior of one of the great kingdoms, sent on a quest to kill a group of deserters led by a wizard, but first you must choose your knight and exactly why you're doing this.

(Four votes to choose the warrior)

>Mekal Iron-side

Race:Beastmen (Gnoll)

Kingdom:Black mountains

One of the few beastmen to become a captain without having to rip your fathers throat out, you've been chosen for this mission to prove your worth to the people of the Black mountains. Find the betrayers, kill them all and bring back the wizards head. As your a somewhat known captain, you've got your own gang with you. They're a weak bunch, and inexperienced but they're yours.

>Pelnziarsk

Race:Greater Kolsa (Alligator tribe)

Kingdom:Great swamp

Born for the role of frontline warfare and blessed with boundless strength, Pelnziarsk serves the high lord of the swamps well, and has been sent out to kill the wizard and deserters to show that the Swamp lords reach extends far and wide.

As you are a Greater Kolsa, you have been given two lesser kolsa from the iguana tribe to serve you on the journey.

>Kel 66

Race:Golem

Kingdom:Under-factory

>New orders

>Find and destroy the golems who defy the factory via emotion, collect the soul stones so that they may be cleansed of personality and made pure.

>You will go alone, make sure to leave minimal tracks leaving and returning to the factory

>Do not come back empty handed

>EInro Insh

Race:Elf

Kingdom:Jade forest

>Noble servent of the jade forest, Blade of the druids, Elnro has sworn on his family blade to serve the forest as it's hands, and so must slay his kin for abandoning their life-long duty, so say the forest.

Lets just have this here not to discuss outside quests but to talk about this board and suggest ways to improve it.

I've been lurking /qu/ and all its variants for a long time and I'm sad to see it so fucking dead so.

>post your quest ideas you want to run or want someone else to run

>ask qms and the current readers of /quests/ for advice, possibly get shit on.

<massive drama going on at anonkun

The site fiction . live has some major community issues right now and I'm not feeding the flames but its a salt storm over the site owner removing quests with content he doesn't approve of in the hopes of his site going mainstream and that of course clashes with the channer userbase.

Still it might be a decent idea to let people know /quests/ is a good alternative, albet one that can use some more content.

I've seen several of their most popular QMs and I'm talking about people who've got a couple hundred dedicated fans/readers up and quit over this.

I hope I'm not overstepping any bounds or rules making this thread.

Well. You've arrived. Quite a few hours ago in fact. Can't quite remember the last time you hesitated for so long before a job. Probably ten–fifteen years ago. First few times always did make you hesitate.

Why now, though? Walk in, ask them the question, get answer, leave. Simple. Simple…

you take a step inside and give the frame a few quick knocks as you enter the office to get his attention. The wood echoes slightly in the quiet air.

The guy lifts his head as he hears the noise.

KINDRED SOULS QUEST

I've always wanted to do a quest and it seems like now's as good a time as any to do one.

But please bear in mind this is my first quest and a prototype one at that so forgive me if I mess things up.

Also by all means post some advice if you feel like it.

Also as a note this is the "JUST fuck my shit up" edition of Kindred Souls Quest meaning that I don't have it completely planned out (even if I said I did) and down on paper but we're JUST doing it anyway. There may be bugs in the game but fuck it lets do this shit and make your dreams come true.

As you put the moth talisman inside the sigil you begin to see another vision though much hazier than the first. This one is accompanied by a feeling that beyond the farm is a great fog or miasma. Within the fog you can see many points of light, some of them disappearing into the distance. The talisman that Helen is holding glows like all the others but with an orange tinge.

Just barely visible, the largest collection of lights lies past where you fought the fox. They’re up on the mountain.

However you also see another thing, a trail of miasma leaking from the dreamcatcher sigil out the window onto the ground. The mess looks like the aftermath of a bucket of tar thrown out the window. You suspect that was caused when you used the other talisman improperly the first time and felt that surge of energy.

We now have a vague idea of a path where that druid guy is. If we go to the mountain on the right with the cluster of stars. Although there could be a chance that he isn't there but something worse being kept there by the cluster of talismans. Besides that, the smaller mountains next to the right one has some talismans as well.

While we can move some over from /qu/, it's probably a good idea to have new content made for /quests/ as well. If you want to make a banner, keep it below 500KB, and they must be exactly 300px wide and 100px high as a JPEG, GIF, or PNG.

The sound hit my ears before the air vibrations hit my whiskers. I stopped in my tracks and cocked my head in the direction of the disturbance. I was deep with the destroyed Man Nest, a territory quite dangerous for any of my kind. Luckily, the sound was neither cat nor snake. It was a breeze. It smelled of mold and… something peculiar. I crawled over the debris and pointed a tentative eye at the massive things above me, watching for birds. Men used to nest there.

At last, I discovered my query and found it too be indeed what I had assumed. A small pipe, leading into a Man Nest. Perfect! I skittered inside, happy to no longer be in the open. I smelled no scent of Rodent as I passed into the opening, although there was another scent… Insect? It smelled like it, but slightly odd.

The pipe ends abruptly, and I see in front of me the vague outline of the crawlspace between the Man Nest walls. Extending in front of me is a short hallway, capped off by what looks to be a crudely constructed door. That makes me uneasy, to find that this place is occupied by intelligent life. Or used to be. Only one way to find out.

You are a young maiden, nubile, pure, and innocent. Whether of noble or common birth, you are undeniably one of the most beautiful in the land. Recently, you've caught the eye of a Dark Lord, who lusted after you and sought to claim you as his own.

> Which Dark Lord claimed you? Choose one, or roll 1d3 and leave it to fate.

> Uruk Bloodgnasher, a tremendously mighty and notoriously vicious warlord. Half-giant, half-orc, he towers over all he meets, and with only his strength, his cunning, and his axe, rose to become rule a vile horde of every monster, cutthroat, and savage imaginable.

> Through his brutally cunning strategies and cunningly brutal fighting style, he came to conquer the southern continent, and slew every foe who came against him with practised ease. Satisfied with his empire, Uruk has decided to reap the benefits of rule, and his eyes have fallen on you.

> Venkalth Zorandir, a dangerous warrior whose skill with the blade is surpassed only by his fearsome reputation. The spawn of a legendary arch-demon and an unwilling high priestess's profane union, his very form is unholy, his skill-at-arms and the dark arts unmatched.

> Wielding his blade of damnation, full-plate of blasphemy, and myriad abyssal sorceries, he gathered a vast host and waged war against the kingdoms of man, coming to rule the northern continent. Content to rest and recuperate for a century or two, he has grown bored with rule and came to desire a companion. You were found more than sufficient to meet his needs.

> Udroghan the Undeterred, a wizard so ancient and powerful, it is said the gods themselves fear his wrath. Unrivaled in his arcane mastery, he transcended his mortality eons ago, and become a deity in all but name.

> Throughout his millenia of occult study, he has spawned numberless horrendous monsters, nightmarish plagues, and unnatural constructs that have ravaged civilization for time immemorial.

> In his black tower in the blasted ash wastes, he has grown weary of his impersonal experiments and has decided to indulgePost too long. Click here to view the full text.

So, you've finally done it. Years of working your way up Temporal Observation Corps for this moment. The time is yours to command and conquer. However, unlike that quote's author, you'll be more subtle. The method you're using can be considered, for the lack of a better word, body surfing. Your mind takes the wheel while the body's original owner takes the backseat, sometimes providing insightful commentary. You enter the machine.

You are Arngeir, and you are a Space Viking… well, sort of. You've only been part of the crew for a month, and most of that has been you getting the stuffing beaten out of you in 'training' sessions that leave you black and blue from head to toe. It's the beginning of your first raiding season, and you are eager to prove yourself and get rich enough to find someone to marry back home. Your easiest way to fame and fortune is to raid and disrupt alien shipping. The season lasts a galactic year, and is called when the council of Jarls convenes with the High King to decide who's pockets needed lightening this time. All this sort of flies over your head a little, the chance for glory and plenty of money was what drew you to enlist.

And so it is that you find yourself in a Valkyrie-class frigate heading out into the shipping lanes of the galaxy at large. The first few weeks are uneventful, with a few small vessels having been stopped and stripped of valuables after surrendering without a fight.

The harsh rising wail of the klaxon calls the crew to battlestations, a worthy prize has been spotted! In minutes you are sealing your evo suit and arming up. New blood always joined the boarding party, and so you find a space in the armored boarding shuttle and stand, shivering with nerves while the veterans around you elbow each other and loudly laid wagers on which newblood would be going home on their shield.

With a shrill bleat, the launch warning sounded, and the vets all clam up, grimly focused. A large hand drops on your shoulder, belonging to a grizzled older warrior, Baldr. He grabs the recruit next to you asd well, and says, "You two newbloods stick with me and pay attention. Try not to trip over your feet, this isn't training anymore."

The shuttle shudders as it attaches to the enemy hull with a clang. The plasma arc begins cutting through the metal, creating a breach.

"Last questions?" Baldr asks.

(Gonna go with the set with the highest roll)

The last helmet seal clicks into place, and the two-man airlock disengages. The first fighters off carry heavy shielding to prepare a beachhead behind which the rest of the boarding crew can safely leave the shuttle. Whooping and hollering, the rest of the crew pours throught the breach in the hull of the stricken ship. The disorganised resistance crumbles easily (rolled 18) and the boarding party splits into fire-teams of threes and fours.

"With me New-bloods!"

With that Baldr heads down a passageway aft of the ship, towards the area that most species built their power sources into. The Ensfri were no different. The large lizard-folk seemed to melt like wet paper beneath the axes of your team as you head to the engine room. Once there you start encountering stiff resistance (rolled 3, Bridge and Engine Room gain medium to heavy reinforcements, chance of injury medium level), and in one of the skirmishes you fall and twist an ankle fairly badly. Still, you manage just barely to avoid dying while Baldr and your team-mate and fellow newbie Stavros manage to keep your skull intact.

Through the cordon of desperate defenders resistance lightens once more and you make your limping way after your team into the engine room. The 2 engineers don't put up much fight and you take them prisoner while Baldr reports to the bridge-team that the engine room is secure.

(Rolled 9 seriousness) You sit down abruptly, head swimming. Your ankle has swollen to the point that your evo suit and footwear are excruciating over the joint. Stavros helps you elevate it while you keep an eye on your captives.

(do you prefer to just roll X number of dice, or would you rather have options too?) In the meantime, roll another 3 d20, best set (highest or lowest roll wins)

It is the year 2057, and America has fallen.

In 2020, the Second Civil War, sparked by the assassination of the president, and the collapse of the dollar, ripped the republic to shreds, leaving a balkanized continent in its wake in.

In the ashes of the eagle, many newly formed countries awoke in a world bathed in blood and the fires of war. Tens of millions died. Some were slaughtered in the numerous conflicts between these infant states, while others simply succumbed to disease and famine.

One such nation that was birthed in this chaos, was the Socialist Republic of California in 2025. During the tail end of the civil war, the socialists seized power by way of a coup, and took over the entirety of the state. The northern half of California did not take kindly to this, and declared themselves as a separate entity known as the Republic of Jefferson. From this, a five year war was waged between north and south, ending in a tenuous stalemate between the two in 2030. The SRC, still claiming Jefferson as their own, sends out a constant flow of reunification propaganda to the north, while the north responds back with an ever increasing amount of threats.

Not only that, but there is a significant portion of the population in the south that wishes to become a part of Mexico, and thus the cartel influence is so powerful that, as a result, there are many no-go zones in the southernmost regions of California. Also, in the far eastern hinterlands of the SRC, the surge of popularity in “radical capitalist” and “counter-revolutionary” ideals remains as strong as ever, and seems to be rising by the day. Coincidentally, this was also where the worst of the Famine of 2040, or the “Great Patriotic Fast” as the party calls it, hit the nation.

In any case, I think that we’ve had enough of the past. Let us look to the present.

Who, exactly, are you?

Adam had to go back. That single stash of explosives could give them a huge advantage. Not only would it permanently secure their presence in the area, but they could scare off the commies, as well as the La Raza fuckers for quite some time. Nobody cared about some desert hicks, after all, especially when the SRC already had such dire shortages at the DMZ, so any reinforcements wouldn’t come until months after the fact. They could finally have some room to breathe.

With this thought in mind, Adam stealthily slipped out of range from the soldier’s sight, then quickly rushed back to base as fast as his little legs could carry him. Even so, the trek took up the rest of the night for him. By the time he got back, the sun was peaking above the horizon, the sky a dark red hue in the early dawn light. Walking up to a rickety, abandoned shack, Adam gave the door a sequence of knocks.

A slit in the door opened up.

“What does the yellow fellow say?”

“Tu ne cede malis.”

“Come on in.”

Once the door opened, Adam gave a jaunty wave at the doorman, then stepped down the staircase to the bunker below. As their last base had been compromised, the group had to settle for something underground. Lately, there had been a lot more cartel activity getting closer to the east, and the bastards loved to sell them out to the SRC.

However, with the new info that Adam had, this wouldn’t be a problem for them for much longer.

The moment he arrived, someone yelled at him from across the room, “Hey, AC, you got back! I’m surprised you didn’t fall asleep on a rattlesnake over there.”

Flushing with embarrassment, Adam yelled back at him. “Shut up! That was a one time thing, Gary. I Post too long. Click here to view the full text.

I doubt sneaking behind the raiding party would help them at attacking the base and Gary would know if we sneaked out. Lets get to know our group better and maybe learn some skills from them.
