Thinking of writing down some informal guidelines.
This would mean we have a link on the rules page with a .txt file writing out a few of the unwritten rules here, as in "Please refrain from posting or bragging about your "successful" sexual life." and "Please do not post generals, they are discouraged."

Yes, you are missing something, only tripfagging is banned.
Just typing shit in the name field is namefagging, isn't banned atm, but you can request it to be banned in the future, maybe others agree.
Tripfagging is done by using the tripcode function, try it out on a testboard if you like. You type your name and then a password, which is turned into a tripcode. Since only you know the password, only you can have the tripcode.
Example: Major Faggot ## Isuckcocks
[Name] ## [Password]
This is not to be confused with the capcodes we moderators can use. They aren't cursive, but red, and are created like this:

The poll is over and resulted in the worst possible result.
Fixing Vichan, which isn't going to work, got place one, because retards hate change.
Switching to Lynxchan, which means deleting every post ever made (lol @ manually copying over posts for a week, like that will even save a fragment of them) and trusting into this unknown variable of a software got place two, meaning that after Vichan fails, we'll try this instead.
Finally, the only sensible option got the least votes, because this entire website consists out of idiots. Even if the other two options fail, it will mean that we will have to deal with post errors for many more months and then the deletion of the majority of the site, finally killing all but the largest boards and all the history they accumulated. Only after the site is thoroughly ruined will we give next another shot, at which point it will be too late.

To be honest, I liked the UI, it grew on me after I tested the development and beta sites. The only thing that really bothered me was the persistent reply window and the weird catalog. If we ever implement next, which is really improbably at this point, I would like to have the 5 styles next had as non-default choices in the options menu.
What is sad is that the UI was the reason people hated next and Josh. Everything else came after that. After Josh kept refusing to change the UI and kept getting angry and shitting on the users, the other complaints came, as came all the stories from his past, dug up by /cow/.
Literally all of this shit would have been prevented if he just made his look a non-default option and made a yotsuba lookalike the standard style.
Now that the dust has somewhat settled, can we list the complaints people had with next, without the outrage and assburgers?

Since next was supposedly designed for being easily changeable, the missing features would have appeared at some point, as his trello account also proves.
The UI issues would have been null, had he not been such a hardhead.
The migration issues would have been gone with the better migration script that Josh talked about on his twitter, which would have copied instead of symlinked all the media.
The bugs would have been fixed sooner or later, 8chan used to have them as well.
The only real issue seemed to be the sites speed, and even 2ch engineers came by to help fix that.
Either we have been lied to by Josh as well and next is in a much worse state than it seemed, making it actually unusable despite all the promise it showed, OR, what I think is the more probably case, the entire thing was abandoned close to being in a usable state, not because of the software itself, but because of it's reputation and the memes surrounding Josh himself.

Maybe there is still hope that one day, we'll see a finished version of it in all it's PHP glory.

I think that Hip has been doing a lot of good work, as he's not really active on the board very much, he just does the shit work of cleaning it when it needs to. Our differences in moderation style has been addressed and cleared up for quite some time now, and I think he deserves creds for the work he has done.

The first two threads were indeed made by the same person.
There are ways to fool us mods like proxies, dynamic IPs and of course Tor though, so you can't be sure if the third one wasn't him as well.
The first two threads were only made around 15 minutes apart, his last posts go back to at least a month prior though, so that anon has a static IP address.
This means either that the third thread was made by the same guy using a proxy or, which seems more probably to me, by another anon.

Really though, I'm actually the more active moderator, since pantsu is occupied with global mod work. If you find an actual rule violation, I will ban the poster and I delete pedo spam on this board daily. It's just that I haven't gotten any legitimate reports in some time. While there are a bunch of low quality threads around, they don't break any rules and don't count as spam either.
The ones in charge of the boards quality are either the moderators or the users. If you want the mods to be in charge, /r9k/ would get strict rules like /a/ and we would ban a bunch of posters daily. Pantsu doesn't want /r9k/ to be that kind of board, he advocates for maximum freedom and I support his decision. Thus, it's in your hand what the board looks like and what it becomes.
Make a good thread, write a good post, sage when replying to obvious bait, hide threads that have no hope left so you are not tempted to reply to them later on and for gods sake, use the filter on template phrases to enhance your browsing experience.
It's popular to make fun of people saying "just ignore them and they’ll go away" around here, but that tactic also has it's place.
When you are dealing with cancerous generals and fanbases, you need to take active action to prevent them form taking over and ruining a board, but there are no such trends on this board. What we suffer from is people believing themselves to be master trolls. They live of attention and as long as you keep bumping their threads and replying to their posts, they won't get bored of you. So hide them, hide the shit threads, deprive them of their attention and they will leave.

No, the last thing I reported was a self-admitted, ban-evading underage maybe a month or so ago. I came to that conclusion because even that report went ignored as far as I know and you guys used to crack down on those reports pretty fast and hard. I can understand not wanting to be /a/-tier, but these last few weeks have been awful. The board is far too slow for user moderation to be a viable option, this isn't /v/.
