I have horrible study habits but because of my previous technical school experience, high intelligence, or above-average memory-retention skills (pick one) I managed to get a 3.75+ GPA my first semester without trying very hard.

I'm paying for it now because I feel like I'm getting killed this semester, I fucked off the first week and have been trying like mad to catch back up.

I have discarded most of the timesinks that used to drag me down in the past, I even skipped my grandmother's birthday so I could study yesterday, but at the same time I went bowling with my cousin and friends.

Anyway, I have mastered the horrible practice of procrastination to the point I would rather do anything else around the house than homework itself. And just having that pressure kills me inside when it's the weekend and I see the clock go into the double digits, i.e. from early am to after 10am, it just feels like time rushes so fast and my day is already over at that point.

Same/similar stories?

Yes, it's usually that I miss out on something study- or school-related due to my mental issues, and then I feel too ashamed to pick it up again by contacting the school. The more time that progresses, the less inclined I will be to do or even try that particular task again.

Im having trouble getting shit done. No problem sitting down to do the work but i always have a youtube vid playing and if its interesting i just get distracted. I ended up spending half hour last night watching a vid on my phone while sitting at my desk surrounded by work.

I think it affects how much i remember too, might have to stop having any media on when studying. Silence feels weird though.

What are you studying anon?

 No.107549

Literally just do your work and practice whatever goes in the exams over and over again, until you can do it with eyes closed.

I just get lazy the whole period and learn all my shit 2 weeks before the exams and I'm golden.

Somehow I've managed to keep my average over 4 out of 5 like this.

 No.107565

could be utterly wrong here, but I assume the technical school had better teachers who understood the concept of teaching boys actual skills.

now you're in a university, which is utterly dominated by twats and liberals. their teaching style is monumentally different.

which is also one of the massive problems I have with your cartoon image. it's FEMALES who suck at teaching, it's FEMALES who refuse to study (because they don't have to, their teachers will bump their grades and fuck your grades because you're male).

fuck this society, fuck this species.

It was a high-school level trade school thing, I went as an adult student at 25.

Disclaimed: I am a humongous faggot and have the habit of calling my community college a UNI MEME KEK.

Yeah, females a shit. My tech math teacher is a fucking harpie that flies through the material. Either that or it's so late in the afternoon that while I can generally follow well enough, my retention skills are shit by that time, also we do our homework in Math on some faggot My Math Lab portal through Pearson and I don' t like it, although it is an opportunity to nail down whatever I'm missing on if I don't get too mad at it.

I'm taking STEM, with a focus on solar power.

I moved the laptop from my room to the living room/dining room table and have taken that over, so that's helping. It's easier to organize my workload with designated stacks of stuff for each class, active assignments, etc.

I got real burnt out and skipped Friday because I had only a few hours to do like 2 or 3 homework problems but even after looking at the Powerpoint from the instructor I still had no fucking clue. I was behind on the reading even after busting my ass on top of nofap last week, probably due to using precious weeknight study time for mundane classes of lower priority.

That, plus a night out to see The Revenant, killed Mon-Wed night. Thursday was hands-on labs at 8, 12, and 4; they were 2 hours each. In the between time was used for catching up and finishing the labs and doing some of the review questions and my instructor is a cool guy and always has an open lab anyways. So by the time I finally got done Thursday I took a short run, ate BK, and just passed out after a long week.

Fapped away half of Friday and didn't do anything meaningful the rest of the day besides entertainment. Did a few hours of study last night before going bowling though.

Today I am going to sit down and will myself to learn this fucking electrical stuff in an effort to catch up on the reading I haven't done, plus whatever I missed on Friday too.

ps it's two electrical classes, Circuits 2 and Electronic (Linear) Devices. smh tbh

 No.107579

>>107572

Oh, one more thing that is a complete demotivator in the electrical classes. The fucking instructor gives open book tests. The final might have even been open book too.

I know that some of the formulas are difficult but letting people use the book is going too far.

mfw I guess people still fail the class. they're either made for it or they aren't.

Even the harpy in math let people use a card with whatever we wanted on it, which while it was helpful for the formulas of various shapes to find their surface area and volume,

there is no excuse for not knowing the fucking Quadratic Equation

we weren't allowed to do that shit on our NYS Regents exams, why the fuck should we get to cheat at a supposed higher-learning institution?

I'm a sperg but I've always been too proud to utilize the tutoring/help center open to all students, I might have to go there for some of the more difficult concepts. I hate to admit defeat but it can only help that this point.

Also I'm taking 18 credits this semester, same as last. wew

Why the hell is that demotivating? In the real world you'll use every tool at your disposal or at least should if you have half a brain. Besides, you're one to talk seeing as how you're fucking failing to study even WITH the lowered requirements.

smdh fam.

>>107565

I did community college first when i graduated hs and promptly dropped out. I'm back in another one now finishing a technical program and I'll just say that the teachers DO have a HUUUUGE impact. I won't write off all women since I've had some shit male professors as well but my token advice is to avoid women if you can.

Something that OP should take into account is that interest in your courses is a huge things too. If you can't fucking get interested in the subject material or at least care about the endgame which is graduation and a job then what the fuck are you wasting your time for?

This weird and might only occur for me but does anyone else not take notes? I have been able to ace all my classes so far with out the need to take notes during lectures (only had one semester) honestly I prefer it this way because its hard to focus on the actual content when the professor is teaching.

I do also realize that not taking notes means that I will have nothing to look over for tests and such. Should I just get a recorder and listen to lectures at 2x speed before the class?

 No.107829

File: 1454956435960.jpg (118.33 KB, 850x990, 85:99, sample-3261a83c510a7b104d8….jpg)

I've only ever done community college courses both academic and technical so it may not be this easy for others but Ideally I will do the following

>skim the entire book so that i know where everything is located

>read ahead 2-3 ch's of where we are at so that i already have an idea of what the lecture will be about so that i don't waste precious brainpower on going over through concepts that i've mastered

>look up miscellaneous resources on the topic so that i can get a different perspective and to reinforce

>as for notes i only jot down something that is either brand new, or that the professor writes on the board/says will be on the test

What typically happens though is that out of laziness or because how simple classes are I'll just do 1 or 2 of the above. Even so, in CC you'll probably be doing more than like 90% of anyone else anyway.

Something I would advocate is to help out those around you that seem to be struggling. Great way to easily befriend someone and puts you in a positive light so that others will help you. Also, networking.

>>107806

It depends on the class but usually I'll just write things that are brand new. I used to have a habit of writing fucking everything just in case but what I found was that the books usually explained it clearer and more concise than whatever chickenscratch I could do and are hella citable.

But yeah, the idea of a lecture is to reinforce or help understand concepts that you've already tried to tackle on your own. As for tests, yeah you're shooting yourself in the foot a bit. The professor will always but things on the board that are on the test throughout the semester but if you save lecture notes and read the book and thoroughly understand the concepts you should be fine.

Again, this is for simple courses, I'm sure down the line you'll bump into courses that you will need to do everything that I greentexted and more if you want to pass.

Whatever you say about reddit they're dead useful in gathering information and having a concentration of knowledgeable people about tons X subtopics. From there you can jump into more obscure forums and the like.

Don't discount genesis and the sci wiki either as well as MOOC providers like edx. The usual places may have something you need.

I have tried it before but tbh sometimes you just need those lectures for it to click. It is damn useful to have a list of resources to go by while you're doing the class however.

The class is fun and interesting, except for my commie teacher being a bitch. A lot of my classes are fun, but I still have no motivation… What gives? Depression?

It affects me as in it's one of the tests that gets graded, so it impacts my grade. I need to score at least a 4, preferably a 5. Teacher used to be my old homeroom teacher, but she's a lot more of a bitch now than she was before.

In general, I find having and looking at notes gives a false sense of knowing more than I do.

I don't think brains remember information when it is too easily accessible somewhere. For example, think about how the internet has basically killed the concept of "general knowledge". Think about how many phone numbers people remembered after phones could do it for them.

It really depends on the teacher and the subject.

Most subjects on the last semesters can be worked out like this, but the hardcore ones should be studied on an almost daily basis in order to pass them with a high grade.

Thing is, attacks of that magnitude come unregularly for me.

Don't let yourself get too comfortable. I spent the majority of my time at home last year avoiding class and I feel like that's the reason it's so bad now. Getting into a habit of getting up and going somewhere is probably the best way to deal with them both.

In my case, the problem is basically stacking on itself now. I miss class, anxiety and work piles up and I'm more anxious the next time I try to go, making me miss the next class and so on. It's horrible.

>Ever tried activated charcoal?

Nope, haven't even heard of it. What does it do?

>>108303

Too anxious to do anything about it and let anyone know I have this problem. Regularly lie to my mother about going to class. Last year I sat in the Walmart parking lot several times until classes were done for the day, then I'd head home. I'd end up shitting their too. Such is life.

>>108306

The only medication I've tried is Linzess, since I'm constipated during the times I'm not anxious (at home). It's either pebbles or nuclear bombs, never normal shits. In my case it's not the cramps that get me, it's the urgency. When it hits it fucking hits and if I don't find a bathroom soon I risk shitting myself. I have to stop at some random store/gas station on the way to class very frequently. I'm anxious about having to shit which makes the problem worse. I've dealt with this problem since fucking Kindergarten and I'm 22 now.

>If your IBS is that crippling, can't you apply for disability?

I might be able to but I wouldn't know where to start. I was diagnosed with IBS by a gastroenterologist a couple of years ago, haven't been diagnosed with anxiety yet but it's fairly obvious I have it.

>Have you tried mixing loperamide and butylscopolamine?

Is your IBS triggered via anxiety or does it just happen on it's own? I don't know if I'd like to be more constipated than I usually already am, if that's what the combination does. If I don't leave the house I can go without shitting for a week or two, and if I do it's usually just pebbles.

>Have you tried Saccharomyces boulardii?

I'll definitely give it a look.
