But I hate new exersices, I am severely self-concious of every action I do. I even skip plenty of them due to being afraid of how it looks. For everyone to see me trying my hardest, and still barely being unable to scrape the barrel.

So yea, it's hard. But at least it gets me out of the house occationally. To afraid to drive on the road, so I walk instead which takes an hour each way.

I started on Tuesday after talking to my friend who does and realizing I have no excuse.

I like it enough, everybody minds their own business and even if I'm being judged for being the scrawny newfag nobody says anything. That and nobody actually cares about me/you nearly as much as you think they do.

I should mention though that I'm going to the rec center and not some fitness chain. So the people I do encounter there are usually old farts of both genders more often than anyone even close to my age.

I'm avoiding a "real" gym specifically because of the gym culture that's surrounding them, I just want some machines to target specific muscles and a treadmill.

It feels good working out and this give me a reason to get out of the house 3 times a week.

Probably. I know it's cliche, but have you read Starting Strength? He gives common-sense explanations as to proper form that don't require you to look at yourself. You could also look at youtube videos to see proper form. If you do want to look at yourself, prop up your phone or camera or whatever when you're lifting.

That having been said, different people have different recommendations for proper form, and you will have to learn to pay attention to your own body to develop your own proper form.

It also helps to start off with light weights that you can do properly; when I lift too heavy my form suffers and I know it immediately. I don't progress as fast as the book says, but I'm still lifting three days a week and that's what matters.

You might try putting on headphones and just focusing on your own shit instead of looking around. The truth is that most guys feel that way, and anyone who doesn't is just a worthless faggot who doesn't matter, and you can completely ignore then because they are just useless faggots.

Read the book Starting Strength by Mark Ripptoe, read it twice. That's what I started with, but I can't do squats or deadlifts anymore so I kind of modified it a bit.

You need to stretch during and after your workout; find out what muscles are targeted for each routine and look up the right stretch on exrx.com. You also need to eat plenty of food + protein to keep up with your workout. If it's still feeling hard, try doing some cardio on your off days, and/or make a "light" day for yourself (this goes against Ripptoe's advice but it works for me).

I listen to music while I workout, but it's always the same and just kind of a background thing. Maybe music will help you, I don't know. I do know that I don't get bored mainly because after a set I'm happy for the rest because I focus hard on each set and push it with my full attention.

I don't get it man, I'm a scrawny fuck who can barely lift anything but I still enjoy working out. It's not my main outlet, that one is the one that's helped me patch myself together the most as of late, but it doesn't feel bad to work out, and I can't even go that long on it.

There's other benefits to it too, like the more defined my arms become the more I can use them as real life references for drawing anatomy, as well as having better control over my pencil when drawing.

I can understand not wanting to work out, it's work. But that doesn't really mean not working out is somehow better than working out.

I go every other day. Looking forward to my workout tonight. I would spend hours and hours in the gym if my body allowed me to.

I'm doing StrongLifts now, about to get challenging. I'm not a big guy but you can tell I have a little bit of muscle mass.

I thought about getting a home squat rack or building one but I simply enjoy going to the gym. Looking at others, looking at yourself being productive and making something of yourself. It's such a healthy environment, if you're self-conscious, look around, no one gives a shit. Everyone's there for the same reason and that's to make themselves better. You don't get that anywhere else. I also enjoy talking to people every once in a while so I don't plan on getting a home gym. Plus, I'd lose motivation because I don't ever leave the house for anything else.

Planet Fitness is for fags. Unfortunately, so is /fit/.

I was going to the gym but then I got on a mountain bike team. I was trying to make myself not care about it and keep lifting and not doing cardio to continue gains, but then I almost got beat by some fucking rich little faggot who's dad bought him a $9000 bike, and my competitiveness took over. I haven't been to the gym in a week and am running and biking collectively over 100 miles a week now and the only upper body training I get is 100 push ups, 30 pullups(I alternate grips), and some bodyweight rows. I haven't stepped on a scale in a while because I know I am way too light now. I am gonna spend $1000 I saved up on a road bike instead of a car too, so there is basically no way out of this for me. I know I could eat a shit ton and still lift and make gains but I don't have time to make a massive breakfast and need to eat cafeteria food for lunch, so the only time I get to eat a lot is dinner. Fuck my life fam.
