if all you have is 4-5k get a honda. check consumer reports for the most reliable model and year, then go from there.

2004 holden vy commodore (Y) do not get a honda. 5 k for the car, 5 k for the repairs.

go with a segway and spend the rest on helmets and pads + lots of life/uninsured bicyclist insurance
