Hey /rand/. I have a few questions. I'm doing an experiment, reason being that a friend of mine recently insisted that hanging a sword from my collection on my wall would be the bad, wrong kind of fun and extremely autistic, whatever that's supposed to mean.
I'm used to him stating his opinions as facts like this, but this time he said that most people would agree with his opinion, despite having no real frame of reference for this. So, I'm going to pick a bunch of people's brains and then check the results to see just how much truth is in that statement. I probably won't tell him either way, I just wanna find out for myself.
So, two questions:
1. Do you believe collecting swords is inherently "autistic" or "cringeworthy"? If so, provide a reasoning behind this, and explain what separates it in your mind from collecting guns, knives, or even something more innocuous and commonplace, like stamps or coins–unless you think collecting anything is retarded, in which case feel free to say so.
2. If you answered "No" to the above, do you think it's "autistic" or "cringeworthy" to display one of your favorite pieces (of any type of collection) in your own home?
Thanks you for your time. Pic unrelated… I think.

>>671yes. not least because you bought a shitty replica. when the racewar/emf-riots/revolution/zombie-apocalypse happens it will break in half as soon as you try to slice your first enemy open.
get 1 sharp sword and keep it with your canned goods. either that or quit being so autistic

>>685Nope. Couple tchotchkys from well meaning relatives but everything I spent my own money on was locally made, mostly by a few people I know who share an interest in medieval and renaissance history. Sorry to disappoint your lofty expectations.
So do I pass the test now, ace?

>implying I'd ever use a sword in shtfMaybe for a last resort kind of thing but that's what guns are for.
You also still haven't explained why it's autistic.

No. But I do know a lot of people that collect shit defunctive weaponry and cheap knock offs. Don't be that guy. Collect real weapons. Not cheap fakes…
2. It's not cringeworthy to be proud of a collection. Only collectors know that feels I guess. But like I said, if you're collecting cheap fakes and defunctive knock offs. Don't be that guy and put them on display.
I personally own one short sword, for self defence. It's authentic, and quite pretty. I had it made to be a shorter version of Beatrix's sword from killbill. If I have room for it, it'll be out of it's case and on it's stand. But if I have no room, I keep it next to my bed.
If your sword is a long sword, don't be that guy and lie about it being for home defence, anyone with a brain knows you can't use a long sword indoors without fucking up the indoors and possibly yourself.
So tl;dr…it depends on what weapons you have and your reasons behind the weapons. lieing is very cringeworthy. being cheap is very cringeworthy. and collecting something you don't know anything about is very cringeworthy.

It depends, are you collecting them because you want to be like "Yeah, I own a lot of fucking swords, bad ass." or are you collecting them for reasons of "This one has a unique story behind it, it was made for sir Anonsworth during the mid 16th century"/"the artwork and design of the sword is amazing" If it's the former, then yes autistic as fuck. If it's the latter then no it's your collection and you find it interesting.

1. Yes. It's katana-wielding fedora tier. Unless this sword is somehow historical (old as fuck) or was passed to you by your ancestors, it's pathetic. Building outdated weapons that are produced today for the sole purpose of collection is autistic as fuck. Hanging it on your wall is something out of 13yo assburger kid wet dream.
But none of it comes even close to the levels of autism required to have to ask strangers on the internet about every little thing you do.
