Some say it's all in the individual, but that's not quite right because there are good methods and bullshit methods.

Holding your hands behind your back and trying to bite someone is probably one of the worst martial art ever, for example.

So there's probably some sort of rough tier we can make for 1v1s.

Brazillian JuJitsu on top?

Boxing just before that?

Kickboxing just before that?

Various bullshit Gong Fu?

Capoeira on the bottom?

I dunno, I wish I learned Judo though.

fight is usually about cardio right?

>fight is usually about cardio right?

It matters but if you can't defend yourself well from the other guy trying to knock you out quickly, then it's not going to come into play.

to be honest i don't even know if there is a point in training for a street fight. I watch street fighting videos, it's looks like a shit show from the start. You train all your life and some asshole sucker punches you while you have the sun in your eyes. I'm not sure what the right answer is.

Maybe just get really good at running fast.

Motherfuckin' parkour, man.

Add in some hold escapes and you have the perfect self defense system for people who don't care about holding up monkey brain pride and fighting "like a man".

That said, boxing is still good for ranging and keeping people back with footwork and jabs until you can work out a good time and route to escape.

I always thought parkour was pretty awesome, I always loved running and loved the "game" element of sparring (was good at taekwondo a while ago), but I never went much further than reading it up and doing a couple of push ups to make myself feel better.

Have you not seen Ip Man? Boxing is superior to everything. Big muscles and big hits beat baby slim Naruto shit any day.

If that were true, there would be an individual who could win by using a martial arts style based on shuffling along on his ass and trying to bite the opponents kneecaps.

>not knowing what "it's in the individual means"

Everyone has different body types. People have to build one based on what their physical attributes and limitations are. Sure, you can work out and do stretches to lower your limitations, but in the end, your body type and height are what matters in how you go about fighting and choosing the style that best fits you.

But you are saying it's ALL down to body type and physical attributes, whereas it should be clear that the method you are using to fight matters beyond just your physical abilities.

You can easily prove this by purposefully making up bad martial arts techniques. Technique matters a lot.

Actually, I meant using your body type and physical attributes to find the right existing styles for yourself. Sorry if it wasn't clear. An old man with bone pain can't fight using a physically active martial art. So to compensate, he has to use a less physically active art that is still effective for defense.

I agree that technique is one of the most important parts of mastering an art.

Learn from everywhere ~desu. Doesn't matter the art ~desu. If it's useful, it's useful ~desu. Also know the basics of street fighting ~desu. Know your weaknesses and your strengths ~desu. Also, lift and train endurance ~desu.
