Personally I'd recommend these
Welcome to NHK - the struggles of a hikikomori
Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad - rise of a band
Bartender - a good drink can help over come a heavy burden
Genshiken - otaku college club
Planetes - slice of life in space

Came here to post this question

So far two come to mind.
I don't watch anime really but I've gotten into Kino's Journey. I'd say it fits the slice of life genre pretty well. Also Yokohama Kaidashi kikou. Anime not might be as indepth as the manga but its still better than most I've seen.
YKK is more melancholy, or 'mono no aware' than Kino's.

Watch Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo, just do it.

Other than that:
Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun for 12 episodes of reverse-friendzone.
Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu ka, K-on and Yuru Yuri for moeshit.
Most series by shaft are slice of life -ish and usually good.
