Hey /rec/,
Kind of a strange topic here: I have an acquaintance who is a huge film buff. He's not a snobby faggot, he does reviews and videos and stuff and is actually really good at it.
Now, he has stated many times that he really likes surreal, fucked up, "feel bad" movies, where the characters have to go through hell and back, the kinda stuff that leaves you sad and confused afterwards, like Lars von Trier's work.
Now for the /a/ part: He's never really been into anime, I don't think he has anything against it, and he definitely doesn't mind subtitles, but he probably just views it as not really for him. Given what I know about his taste, I think he would be absolutely floored by NGE, and End of Evangelion in particular. I'd like to suggest he watch it, but I'm not sure what the best way to go about that is, especially without spoiling things I'm pretty sure if I told him about the opening to EoE he'd watch it immediately, but I'd prefer for him to be surprised
So do you guys know anything I can mention to help convince him? I know he enjoys Wes Anderson movies, and Anderson has gone on record as saying EoE is one of his all time favorites, so I'm definitely planning on leading with that. Any other suggestions? I'd appreciate it quite a bit.
tl;dr: How to convince a film buff type to watch NGE/EoE.

Grave of Fireflies is one of those sad movies, maybe he'll like that.
