Well, the title says it all

I don't want to watch any mainstream shit now... and since my first anim00 is Kino no Tabi, and was wondering if there's any other anim00 that has the same plot/theme as it. Watched Tegami Bachi (both 1st season and 2nd season/reverse) and I liked it

send help ;____;

Mushi-shi is really similar in that it's episodic and has a new locale and issues in pretty much every episode. The main character is also a traveler who is unable to stay in one place for long. Where Kino no Tabi deals with social issues through symbolism often by hyperbolizing certain values in the context of a country built around those values, Mushi-shi is more into personal issues, when it does have an apparent symbolic meaning beyond what literally takes place in the story, which is also totally interesting on it's own. It has a really captivating atmosphere of natural scenery set in the relatively distant past combined with supernatural themes.
I didn't really dig Serial Experiments Lain as much as the next guy who's into psychological and experimental anime, but Lain and Kino both have the same director, and if you're looking for something non-mainstream in presentation or unconventional, it's worth a watch. Tons of people think it's really great and even though I only considered it a 6/10 I want to watch it again and see if I appreciate it more. It's very obtuse, slow, and wandering, dealing with identity issues and the blurring of what is considered reality in an age where everyone uses the internet. It's considered cyberpunk and is kind of predictive since it's 90's anime and was made before people were as connected as they are now. Really experimental in basically every area but for some reason it didn't click with me .

No. I'm glad you enjoyed it though. I've thought about writing reviews but it seems kind of redundant with the amount of reviews there already are for everything, and I'm not confident in my writing to begin with. Thanks for bothering to tell me you enjoyed it though. It boosted the confidence a little.
