I really wan't to get in to the Gundam series, but don't know where to start, what to watch and what to skip (I know wing is pretty edgy)

Anyone care to help me?

There's no real bad starting point, just don't watch any of the sequel series to start with (SEED Destiny and ZZ Gundam off the top of my head). I started with 08th MS Team and 0080.

You could also just start with the 3 recap movies of Mobile Suit Gundam.

Start with the original Mobile Suit Gundam (the original. AKA 0079)

From there you can watch anything in the UC except ZZ, Char's Counterattack and Unicorn
