I'm afraid to look up tenchi muyo because I don't think a wiki will do it justice. I'm hoping that someone who has watched tenchi muyo can tell me from their own point of view what tenchi muyo is all about. I have seen parts of episodes very long ago but never understood what was going on.

if it's good, I really want to watch it.

please help?

I wouldn't recommend it. The series always follow the same formula, just some vague outline of a plot on the first two or three chapters, then the whole series is a harem where many females molest the MC and he is oblivious to it, then when the ending gets near it's a convoluted mess of information and happenings taken out of nowhere that don't get properly solved.

Honestly I still watch all the new series out of habit and because I've already watched too much of it, but I still wouldn't recommend.

Tenchi Muyo in Love.

You can even watch it dubbed. The dub has a special place in my heart and it has some powerful lines that are delivered better in English.

Jap is overall superior, though.

Plus, it's kampfy.

thanks for your input!

do you know where I should start?

I know tenchi muyo has been around very long, and I have no idea where to begin.

 No.5128

If you want to watch the main storyline begin by Ryo-Ohki OVAs.

Tenchi Universe might be better, but it's an alternative story. The movie mentioned by >>5120 happens after Universe.

This is directed to >>5125.

The movie happens after the universe, as >>5128 said, but it was the first animated Tenchi Muyo thing I've seen and it worked regardless.

If I watch

Ryo-Ohki OVAs

or

Tenchi Muyo in Love

which do I watch first?

what are all the tenchi muyo's that exist? can I please have the names of all of them in order from beginning to end? I'm really confused.

There's not a general order, there are parallel stories that only share the characters. Ryo-Ohki and Tenchi Muyo in Love are unrelated, apart from having the same characters. As if they were in different universes.

The main series is:

>Ryo-Ohki OVAs

>GXP (happens during the same time as Ryo-Ohki)

>War on Germinar (happens years after the end of Ryo-Ohki)

A completely unrelated history is:

>Tenchi Universe

>Tenchi in Love (after Universe)

>Tenchi Forever (after Tenchi in Love)

Other unrelated:

>Tenchi in Tokyo

>Daughter of Darkness

>Ai Tenchi Muyo

(these are unrelated to the others and unrelated among themselves)

And then there are some magical girl parodies/spin-offs that are even less related to any of them.

wow thanks so much!

Just watch El Hazard: The Magnificent World. It's much better than any Tenchi series and has a dub even the creator likes if you're into that sort of thing.
