Other than the obvious (i.e. Cowboy Bebop) I've never been that into anime but fairly recently I bothered to watch GuP and enjoyed it.

After that I've seen Gunslinger Girl, Sora no Woto and Upotte! . Any idea what to try next?

Girls and guns/war/tanks/violence would be nice. I'm sure this is fairly pleb-tier as taste goes but I'm new to this and all.

I wasn't a huge fan of Upotte since it went nowhere and was rather too reliant on fan service for my tastes but loved the other two.

Actually I also remember watching some fairly forgettable show involving airsoft but it wasn't particularly good.

Why do all of these shows only feature 12 or so episodes and plots that suddenly end?

>some fairly forgettable show involving airsoft

C3-Bu?

>Why do all of these shows only feature 12 or so episodes and plots that suddenly end?

Because that's the duration of a cour.

>C3-Bu?

Looks like it.

>Because that's the duration of a cour.

Fair enough. This is like American shows going to 22 or British ones doing 6 or 12 yes?

Then you might want to check:

Mirai Nikki

Akuma no Riddle

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S

Sabagebu

>This is like American shows going to 22 or British ones doing 6 or 12 yes?

Basically yes.

There are four cours of television broadcasting in Japan.

The duration of each cour is equal to three months and the majority of the shows only air during one of them.

For this reason anime tends to have between 11-13 episodes.

Thanks for the recommendations and explanation.

By the way which of the three link at the top should I try first for manga (i.e. which has the best quality shit)? Additionally is kissmanga any good? I've used their site of anime so far and it seems fairly reliable.

>kissmanga

I haven't used much but it seems alright and I don't remember hearing any complains about it.

Overall it's fairly similar to the second link in the top, Bato.to, although it seems like it's necessary to register and login for viewing some of the content in the latter.

If you notice that one service is better than the other for some particular other than have I've mentioned I'd be interested in hearing about it.

Well I'm new to this but I'll probably go with the one that doesn't require an account.

If you enjoyed Sora no Woto, then there's a whole fucking lot of really rather good SoLs, Non Non Biyori, Hidamari Sketch, Koufuku Graffiti, and a pile of others.

There's GATE that has a lot of military stuff, it's not great but good enough to make it worth watching.

Seconding Sabagebu, it's a comedy show first and foremost but it does have lots of gunfights.

Also, watch Ghost in the Shell, the movie, then Stand Alone Complex. While it does have girls and guns, war, tanks and violence, it's a serious show, not at all similar to the others listed. There's quite a lot of it, some 4 movies and ~50 episodes.

What's a SoL? Something to do with schoolgirls?

Gate looks good.

Can you give me a proper viewing order for it all? I've heard good shit about Ghost in the Shell but I've got no idea where to start.

Release order is the best I assume but I'm not sure.

Slice of Life. Sora no Woto is definitely one. They don't necessarily have to do with schoolgirls, but they are typically about them. Basically, they're chill shows with only minor events and some comedy, much like the first 9 or so episodes of SnW.

Ghost in the Shell, release order is fine, watch the movie, then SAC 1, SAC 2, movies as they were released. Using myanimelist is generally not something to advertise, but it's handy for determining these sorts of things. The first movie has a remake as well, but most people will tell you to stick to the original.

GitS also has a recent bunch of releases, the Arise movies, they're not that great, probably still worth the time.

There's also Koukaku no Pandora, which is airing this season, by the same writer and takes place in the same universe, but is a completely different show, a light yuri comedy with some decent action here and there.

Got it. Will check them all out then since SnW was fun.

Sounds like my project for the next time I'm free will be to do it all in one go then.
