Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei and Joshiraku, you must be pretty Japanese to get the jokes though. The former is vaguely similar to Cromartie.

I dunno bout Joshiraku, but SZS is border-line unwatchable without wikipedia open and 200wpm type speed. Hell, the manga is only readable because of TN notes, and it fills the fucking borders. It's the exact opposite of a gag manga, which is what he's looking for. It's vaguely similar to cromartie because it's in a school, and that's it.
