I have been on this site for around 5 years and have noticed that it is consistently worse in the last year and a half.
The downvote upvote system is fucking retarded. Basically, you are given unlimited freedom to essentially sway any thought that you don't like. From what I can tell, if a post has 0 or less downvotes, regardless of content, others will follow suit in order to follow that trend. They literally downvote because they feel they have too
I'm mostly salty because there is potential there for great content and discussions and legitimate help. Time and time again I see people reaching out for help only to be downvoted for no possible explanation.
I'd like to see one of two things.
Either the karma system turns to a "spending" system. Where a redditor can earn his votes and spend them accordingly. This would promote actual conversations where people actually value their voting power rather than "hurr durr funny pun hurrrr upboat to da left" A redditor could be allowed an introductory 10 votes per day to spend as they wish, if their comments or submissions are upvoted, they receive that upvote in their bank. Of course this could be tweaked but you get the general idea.
The second idea is completely removing the downvote. Instead of some faggot one reddit getting butthurt of something they dont like they are given the choice to either upvote or simply ignore the post. Good posts are brought to the top while shitty posts stay on the bottom. As it is now, they are currently hidden if downvoted below a certain threshold.
