Part 1/2
I watched an analysis on Apocolypse Now today, to be quite honest it was very interesting and I will link it in the description. I myself had different theories on Apocolypse Now, but in this circumstance I will point out a single part of the analysis.
The narriator says, and I quote "The name on the radio is Almighty. Certainly a hint towards a godly being striking judgement from above. And again, judgement is the opposite of how Kurtz and Willard operate". This stood out to me, as the film is about the decent of a man into madness through various deprogramming methods in each camp. The location and everything around him is a symbolism to hell, at least in my opinon. With each stop representing a layer in which he goes into, the last part where he meets Satan himself.
The armies of hell represent in the bible a lack of standards. Anyone who does not uphold gods will is dropped into this pit without even light to guide them. Standards are the only thing that seperates us, as human beings, and animals. These standards exist all throughout our culture and ways of life, they are subsidized as rights or morals or whatever euphamism one can create.
When I watched this movie, I couldn't stop thinking about how it applied to the world today. He traverses throughout a world that not only lacks standards but perpetuates them through their own interests. When we see people all throughout our lives, challenging things like status quo, they do so in hopes to remove the standards for their own interests. We see people demanding that homosexuals take pride in their acts and to flaunt it as a way of life, effectively challenging the standard of privacy in sexual relations. This is also seen in gatherings like the "slut walk" and the "sex positive" movement, where they wish for a world in which women take pride in their promiscuity and lack of social responsabilities.
The same with the healthy at any size movement.
We have the anti binary movement, the feminist movement and various smaller things in which its nearly impossible to list all of. All of which challenge their own various standards in the status quo, they demand to be recognized in their destruction of current standards.
Allow me to explain the world in which they want. The world that taunts me. The world that I see in my dreams every night.
The wish for a world without any form of standard. Even in smaller, tribalistic societies, no one had the resources to sustain this type of movement in their life. This way, this movement, this blob of existence, they wish to live in a life of luxury that is provided for them. They wish for a world in which every aspect of their life is individualistic, where they may have whatever sexual organs they please, whatever sexual act that they please–and in public, mind you–, whatever clothing they please, with whomever they please, at whatever age they please, whatever colour they please, for whatever means of exchange–if there is any–, at any size, at any state of mind, and whatever prefrence they like afterwards.
They wish for their life to be effortlessly customizable. But this isn't all that they wish for. They want both their freedom and the destruction of those whom that hold them to these standards. They wish not for the destruction of society, which feeds and clothes them, but for society to become them.
They want a world in which everything is accepted. They justify these with a basis of emotion, which they prevent any negative forms of with the use of drugs. They want to be accepted in even their most deprived state, they want life as we know it to end and to resurge like a pheonix in a unrecognizable form.
A world where everyone is entertained, everyone is sedated, everyone is happy and exactly what they want. A true world of "it does not effect me, therefor, it does not concern me"
They lack any sense of perspective when it comes to reality. The reality of which being that there is a heirarchy. There are people who live out their entire lives serving others, working as hard as they can day in and out without even realizing it.
They do not think of the hard working farmer in Montana, who spends his entire life raising cattle and food for people like them to eat. They do not think of the chinese child who will never know his life outside of a factory, who built the shoes they wear and the computers they use.
There is no concern for the surgeon that changed their genetals, all his years of hardship just to get straight A's in medical school.
They nego that died farming for the diamonds they wear or the mexican that grew all the pot that they smoke just to feed the mans family.
There is only the "community" and I put that in quotation marks, because they lack any sense of community. There is a commune of spoiled individuals, creating a lifestyle they suits them in a world that they do not appreciate.
