Hey guys

I recently converted from Atheism to Christianity, around January/February last year, and I've identified as Catholic almost resolutely throughout that time, although I've dabbled in sects of Protestantism and with Orthodoxy. I'm really not sure what type of Christian I am. Every test I take places me at Anglican, so at this point I'm kind of confused. I really don't know much about what each sect teaches, and I'm only a really recent convert, so I'm still pretty weak on my understanding and knowledge of the Divine. Can a brother in Christ get some help?

Read the Catechism of the Catholic Church to know the reality of Catholicism.

For example: The church does not recognize the devil to really exist the way that popular culture does.

Anything else you'd recommend if I find myself at odds with Catholic theology?

Honestly it covers things pretty thoroughly but know that the Catholic Apostolic Church itself is really there to lead the flock when they go astray. If you have any pressing questions you can always ask your local Priest that you're comfortable with or just read the New Testament itself. Jesus really only gave us the beatitudes and his parables. The old testament stuff is thrown in mainly because Jesus was raised Jewish.

Some short articles that might be helpful if you find yourself struggling with scripture:

http://zippycatholic.wordpress.com/2014/09/01/if-you-knew-how-to-read-you-would-know-that-you-are-not-god/
http://zippycatholic.wordpress.com/2014/09/03/everyone-interprets-scripture-in-the-light-of-the-natural-law/
http://zippycatholic.wordpress.com/2014/09/13/literal-insanity/

I don't 100% agree with all of Zippy's conclusions, but in principle I think his approach to biblical exegesis is perfectly Catholic, and hence perfectly reasonable.

Also here's a chant that I just recently listened and feel like posting. Yes it's low-quality, I feel that enhances the ambiance.

Good luck OP, when I have more time tomorrow I wouldn't mind answering any questions you may have, for now I'm going to bed.

Pic related is probably the best defense of the Catholic Church's legitimacy against Protestant criticism I've ever read. Written by a convert from Anglicanism as well, for what that may be worth.

You can find it for free here: http://www.newmanreader.org/works/development/index.html

Along with the rest of Newman's corpus. I also recommend the Apologia, his conversion story.

You can just be non-denominational and take the best from everything!

Well why don't you tell us exactly what you believe about God?
That should help us answer the question you're asking better than any automated online test.

You can also be unaffiliated.

Don't be an Anglican, their denomination is basically non-existent/Liberal.

Check out this youtube channel. He used to be an atheist, but converted to Christianity after he delved into it heavily.

I don't understand this graphic at all. How can something be and not be at the same time. This makes no sense to me.

The essence of God operates and manifests in all three simultaneously. It doesn't "stop" operating in the Father because the Son is manifested on earth, or the Spirit is operating in a baptism.

"I could wish that men would consider these three things that are in themselves. These three are far other than the Trinity; but I speak of things in which they may exercise and prove themselves, and feel how far other they be. But the three things I speak of are, To Be, to Know, and to Will. For I Am, and I Know, and I Will; I Am Knowing and Willing; and I Know myself to Be and to Will; and I Will to Be and to Know. In these three, therefore, let him who can see how inseparable a life there is—even one life, one mind, and one essence; finally, how inseparable is the distinction, and yet a distinction."- Saint Augustine of Hippo
