Something that has interested me through out history is that certain social mechanisms come with some perks that their abuse and inherent dishonest practices later become institutionalized (not using the SJW definition).

Slavery is one of this examples, it started as indentured servants, the it became a scam, then slavery, a bigger scam, then it became easier to become race-based.

the reason why communism and socialism (except Hitler's Germany) failed is because it was large scale. You have to think of it in terms of a community. If a factory is built, it DOESN'T belong to ALL the workers. It'll belong to those working in it, that would also mean that they could impose rules as to who belongs there.

ultimately, I doubt anyone would build one if it meant that they won't own them.

I'm pretty sure that's not the reason it 'failed'. Also Nazi Germany PRIVATIZED a bunch of businesses and threw out the legitimate socialists (Strasserites and SA). Furthermore, your bias shows in that the Soviet Union, a state which existed for ~70 years is a 'failure' where as a state which existed for 12 years is somehow a 'success' (Third Reich).

Not to mention, the reason for the collapse of the Soviet Union was not due to 'the failure of socialism', it was due to ass-incompetent reactionary conservative bureaucratic class which refused to reform and update the economic system as more technology became available. Not because 'socialism fails'

I said something already about how questionable larger scale enterprises could be ran in a syndicalist fashion. But the risk was not 'people not working in it' but more of the lines of how efficient would a large-scale space program operate with 'direct' autogestion principles (as opposed to aforementioned 'all workers own a share of the corporation and it doesnt get away from the workers/something liek Mondragon Corporation in Basque Country)
