How good does my rice look? Is there anything I could potentially do to spruce it up?

life must be hell for ya kek

jokes aside this looks like a *really* good rice; simple, not too colorful, and overall rad

as far as sprucing goes, i guess you can try decreasing the saturation of your colors? but that's not really too important, so whatever

Background looks a bit boring, I'd atleast put an animu girl on there

OP here -- Here's my new rice 7 months later. How does it compare?

pretty neat

I've worked pretty hard on this rice and I was wondering how I could improve it?

I've been trying to make a fairly modest sounding rice of my laptop for a while now. Black background and orange text. Minimal blue light, pretty legible, not too ugly.

I started by getting a Stylish dark theme and making the text color orange. Then I tried editing the HighContrastInverse theme by taking everything that was "white" #fff and #ffffff, & making it "orange" and #ff7f00.

That made things like the password thingy when launching chrome, the thing that drops down to show you networks you are connected to from the panel, and the buttons that get highlighted when selecting where to save a file orange.

Everything else is still white. How do I go fully orang?

I've been using i3 for quite a while now, and I've riced a lot of it already.

One thing I've never bothered looking into, though, is the status bar. I've been fine with the default i3bar and i3status, and it's just kind of been "there" for me to click on the workspace numbers and the xembed icons whenever I feel like it.

I feel the need to rice it, but I'm not sure what to use for it. I've seen i3bar replacements such as lemonbar and polybar, as well as i3status replacements such as i3blocks.

I'm looking for something as easy to configure as i3, that looks great, without much necessary tinkering besides the colors and shortcuts. It'd also be nice if it'd show me the name of the active application in each workspace.

Share your comfy bar setups for any wm, and preferably explain how you integrate them in your workflow, so it isn't just "there", being a nuisance.

i always used py3status, easy to use and just werks

Before I switched to dwm, I used i3-gaps with polybar. It's quite a nice bar alright, can be extended with shell scripts, and of course, setting colours, fonts, icons, and even bar transparency is possible. Here's a pic of that setup.

how do you decide your color layout in Xresources? i currently have this and it works well for most things, but when i go onto my mounted drive it just goes full puke. feels terrible. i might have to mess with this a bit more, but would cause this?

ls might be the culprit. I used to get that puke color in ls too. Try something other than that to test the colors.

Lookup "solarized," it is an engineered color scheme.

Just go to terminal.sexy

look up "bad dragon", it's an egineered phallic object for faggots like yourself

I was setting up a gtk theme for the gentoo build I'll be migrating to. I based it off of Arc-Dark theme and decided it was too bright for me. I redid a bunch of assets from gtk-2, but alot of the assets from gtk-3 is untouched. How the hell do I get rid of that #404552 block and the scroll bars that seems to be linked to the gtk-3.0 theme?

Op here, How do I make some gtk apps transparent. Also, what icon pack goes with the #7A5ADA transparent dark space theme I have going?

Supyo, was wondering if anyone wants to get in on making this rice pack with me. So far I have a bunch of GUI mods and system mods for Win7 that make it look and function more like Linux. I also have a batch file that auto-installs a lot of it. Is there any software you guys think I'm missing? Does anyone wanna help with the auto-installer (possibly make a C++ executable for it)?

When this is done, it's supposed to be a click-and-go full Windows optimization and GUI/functionality overhaul. Let me know what you guys think.

Does anyone here know how to deal with this?

I'm using Xfce on fedora, and I see this all over where kana in a line where there's no kanji will change the font of any numerals, so you get this messy-looking situation.

This is going to sound weird /rice/, but how can I see my desktop more? I want to be able to see those damn pretty wallpapers I got! Pretty much all of what I do is either directly in the terminal or in a browser, so my set-up is pretty much:

>Terminal/IceCat automatically open at startup

>They're both set to solarized color schemes.

>The terminal via a zshrc solarized theme I copypastad.

>The browser via a style manager add-on.

Pic related, it's what I want to see more of behind this terminal and this browser.

I used Compiz years ago to embed a terminal into the desktop. It was pretty fun. You can slap a conky on it, too.

Can I do Ricing with Windows 8.1?

Just about everyone else I know still using windows is still using Windows 7, so I feel ahead of the curve in terms of technology.

Has anyone else had any experience using software like Rainmeter on Win 8.1?

Okay, then go to 4/b/ and make a windows thread.

File: 0ba659dfd5f44fe⋯.jpg (799.21 KB, 1080x1080, 1:1, 1463333609099.jpg)

Windows is literal malware. Why must you shill so gosh darned hard when you know no one here will be convinced.

Well, OP, the first step you should take towards ricing Windows 8.1 is to navigate to the downloads page of a beginner-friendly Linux distro (such as Linux Mint, Ubuntu, or Manjaro) and download the corresponding .iso. Then, you're going to want to burn it to a live USB and give it a test drive – be sure to give a few different distros and desktop environments a spin so you can figure out which ones you like the best. Then, you're going to want to use the live USB to install this distro OVER Windows 8.1.

From there, other threads on this board should be able to assist you. Happy ricing!
