can i add that next to the xinitrc call? or do i need to copy the conf to my home directory and add it there? i'm used to just trying to tweak compton in xinitrc, so that if i do mess up my configuration file, i can always just reset it without losing the base adjustments.

My thought process behind them;

Slight blue tint, because it contrasts with an orange lighting. Keep your shadows transparent and wide so they don't become garish.

Move them down, and very slightly to the right. That's where lighting is most natural.
