This is the designated meta thread, post complaints and shit here.
Feel free to advertise any related boards in this thread as well.
Also, if any of you have relevant banners or flags you would like to have added, here is the thread to post them in. Banners need to be 300x100 and flags need to be 16x11. If you do post a flag, also post what you want me to title it.

There's something about abstract one-eyed otherwise faceless creatures like in that pic that have always fascinated me.

It's not a roguelike, sorry. I didn't have any other good relevant images to start the thread with. But on that note, I created a megami tensei board as well.

On image boards.
rec.games.roguelike.* and roguebasin are much more active.
Not to nitpick but just to point out /rlg/ doesn't even have a size advantage

>>151>>155Atleast you guys dont take yourselves too seriously.
Anyway, I might shill on RGRX if this place gets a bit more active, this place looks very promising to bitter grognards us ;^)
Also pls contain rougelitelikelike fans somehow. Maybe a single thread or something. I think the vast majority of posters would find that agreeable.

After several complaints and a whole lot of shit flinging, I decided it'd be best to remove casual. There were lots of users unwilling to post on this board simply because of the presence of roguelite threads and I didn't realize how much of a bad image that stuff gave this board. I only allowed it in the first place in an attempt to reel in some traffic here.
To be fair, I would've let it continue anyway if there were some quality roguelite threads but none of them were getting non-shitposts. The core userbase didn't give a fuck about those threads so it was better to let them go.
Please remember to use the report feature often in the future, it's a big help. I'm the only mod here for the time being.
I'm not going to be a nazi about it or anything though, so far we've only had one ban and it was a spammer.

How come flags only seem to work in certain threads?
No.220
Here's a flag. It's everyone's favourite race/class, MiBe.
No.224
>>219hotwheels talked about it briefly on /meta/; there's some refreshing bullshit that needs to happen before the flags will start to work on all of the threads that were on the board prior to the addition of flags to put it in layman's terms. after you simply post in an older thread, the flags should be available in that thread from then on.
>>222this is my favorite one so far. adding them all now.

Can we get a locked sticky on the definition of roguelike so we don't get threads cropping up saying 'is this a roguelike?' and 'I sure do love roguelikes -binding of isaac.png-'?
No.253
>>251That'd be great, but I wouldn't know what to write exactly. If someone is able to articulate what differentiates a roguelike from a roguelite well enough, I'd add it to a sticky, certainly.
actually makes me wish I had left the shitty binding of isaac thread up because that had some usable material in it.

>>253A rogue like is a game thats linear, but punishes the player heavily for dying. It's not always perma-death.
A rogue lite is a game that's procedurally generated, is a perma death, but you unlock levels/upgrades as you go making the game get easier or harder. Usually these games will have tile based random generation in some form. They rely more on luck than skill, though still a challenge skill helps a lot.
Also I'm plugging
>>>/roguelite/ as it's a place for discussion on games that aren't masochistic enough for here. ( I mean masochistic in the best way.)
No.349
>>253Fuck, I'l give it a shot. This is intended more as framework than a final product, someone with more skill than me can try to build upon this.
Roguelikes must posses all or most of the following traits and usually have their gameplay based solely around them:
-Permadeath or severe penalty for death
-Turn based actions that encourage chess-like strategy (risk vs reward)
-Equal amounts of luck and skill involved, the skill usually lies in how a player deals with random events or items
-Unidentified consumable items and equipment
-Procedurally generated terrain or events
-A race/class system which encourage different play styles
-Grid based diagonal and perpendicular movement
-Ascii or tiled graphics
While a roguelike often builds themself around these features, a roguelite isntead borrows one or more of them (usually permadeath) and integrates it into a different genre.
As an example:
Roguelike - DCSS as it features all of the above features and its gameplay revolves around said features
Roguelite - BoI as it borrows some features from roguelikes but does not have its gameplay centralised around these features

Does anyone really care about the distinction between Roguelike and Roguelite? I mean everywhere else they get lumped together, and while most roguelites are kinda shit, Binding of Isaac kicks ass. Plus you can *technically* argue that Dungeons of Dredmor and TOME4 are roguelike because lulz graphics.
I mean either way I don't give a shit, but did the roguelite posters really shit this place up that bad? I ask cause I only recently discovered this board.
