Gr are not even that good. I guess they ensure you will have good defences even if you are completely retarded with your skill training, but stuff like Mi and HO is just better.
(How do I flag?)
No.391
>>389even if you manage to get your dodging and armor skills to 27 with a Mi or Ho, it's still jack shit compared to the ease of obtaining fucking 80 AC and being naturally resistant to near everything.
Gr are fucking walking tanks. Only race I've ever been able to get rF+++, rC+++, rN+++, rM++++ all at the same time early game, again not even mentioning the fact they're inherently resistant to poison and lightning by default. It feels cheap to play as them, but they suit my playstyle because I personally enjoy not having to flee from jack and shit. I fell to enemies time and time again because running seemed like the less favorable option compared to taking my chances and fighting.
just click the (None) beneath the comment field, and it'll open a drop menu.
No.392
>>391It's 20 AC endgame difference vs. almost 100 HP. And endgame, well, it doesn't really matter, but lower HP hurts vs. smites and in general (I suspect early ogres hurt Gr more than Mi, too). HP is very important in Crawl.

>>603Lava orcs were boring as fuck. Then again, everything in Crawl is boring as fuck once you know what you are doing.

literally the only threat I can remember to my OP gargoyle was crystal spear. the game always became boring because you can just walk through everything as GrFi.
No.708
>>692You can walk through everything as any –Fi. Every character is OP by the time you get your first rune. It's not because of your stupid shitty resists, it's because Crawl gets easier the farther you go.
rF+ and rC+ matter. rF++ matters in Zot 5 because orbs of fire. rM kinda sorta matters because ogre mages. NONE of these things are related to being a Gargoyle. Literally none of the other resistances matter.
There's a grand total of 3 threats in the game that use lightning, and all of them are trivially beaten without rElec. rPois makes Spider/Snake less tedious, and does nothing useful at any other time ever. rN is just fucking worthless unless you do extended.
Gr is the best -2 HP race, but that means fuck-all, and is ENTIRELY because of free AC, not resists.
No.802
>>708Not that anon, but gargoyles always felt like one of the easiests races I've ever played on DCSS, they are robust as fuck and it feels good to play a wizard that doesn't fall over a breeze. The only easier char was a mummy summoner on .12, and they were terribly broken by then since unlimited summons + unlimited mana + unlimited time
No.829
>>708MR is the most important resist in the game.
Also rElec is good for Nikola but potions exist.
Also, the thing with Gr is that they're "easy" for newbies who forget to quaff curing when poisoned etc. There's a reason qw plays mostly Gr.
