Ok, gotta kick the board with some RPG Maker classics. One post for each title with a short description for better readability.
I'll try to post one classic once in a while to keep the thread alive.

Heaven & Hell Episode 3

You take the role of Ayen Karparl, an agent from the kingdom of Ivory, sent to infiltrate the futuristic city of Timon. After a while you learn of much more powerful forces at work.
A very ambitious project at the time. It has lots of hackery around the default battle system allowing such things as unique animations for characters wielding the same kind of weapon.
Dungeons & Dragons mechanics mixed with a cyberpunk setting and religious imagery make it one of the more unique games of that era.

Sadly, it was never completed.

Probably not a classic in the US but it is one here.Super Cueca's Blood Seeker.I don't know if there is a version in english but if there is you should probably play it.

Everything begins with an empire thirsty for power, with plans to extermine the Lutheran rebels.Everything gets more complicated when the a new Revolutioners group appears. The empire then proceeds with a campaign to exterminate all his enemies, the Great Crusade.Without knowledge of the humans a game between god and demons that may exterminate the humanity begins. You control Alan,a warrior who loses his memories after the incidents in the start of the game and ends up getting involved in a adventure of mysteries, magic and monsters.

A Blurred Line

This one's an oldie, the very first demo being from October 2000.
A blue-collar factory worker named Talan gets framed into murdering the Director of the Agency, a mega corporations with a monopoly on unlimited energy. Being chased by the Agency soldiers, Talan flees to seek "Paradise", a community free form the Agency's jurisdiction.
The game has a bit of tinkering around the default battle system. Talan can detect and absorb the "aura" of his enemies, which unlocks him new abilities. Other party members also have interesting, non-conventional skills at their disposal.
However, its strongest point is the story. It starts slows but then picks up pace as it progresses. Ultimately ending with a cliffhanger.

SCMRPG LOL you knew it was coming. One of the few RPG maker games to have gotten any attention, and back in the day (2005) it got a lot of coverage

What about the Laxius Power series?

Granted it's shit but it's notable shit.

Never tried them out, mostly because the author actually charges money for it and I didn't feel like pirating it. The writing is apparently somewhat decent (I guess), but the (poor) use of default resources is probably enough to put off a lot of people.

I… I've been looking for an rm2k game with the only defining feature I remember is it being "futuristic."

I think this is it! I played it more than 10 years ago, and couldn't remember anything about it other than a few tilesets, and a vague idea of how the main character looked.

But that title screen looks familiar, and the name shqua, too.

I played it for a little bit and I think it's the same game fleshed out!
Cool, dude.

(and yet, I don't really feel like playing it; I just had a burning curiosity to find something with a vague feeling behind it - a relic from a time when I gave a shit about random rpgs/incomplete games.)

It looks like exploiting tragedies is more important than game quality.

Ken's Gao's To The Moon. This game is just plain awesome. It looks so professional it makes me think what the fuck have i been doing with RPG Maker in all these years.
