Hello to all 9 of you /sci/entists

Why is this board so dead? Half/sci/ attracted much more attention than this (even adjusting for higher halfchan traffic). It would have been my favorite board if not for the IQfags, conciousnessfags and freshman math-fags - none of these are a problem here, so this board is perfect for me, yet it's a fucking ghost town.

How can we revitalize it? Shill on /boards/? Encourage more quality content? Weekly journal club?

I think we need to make threads about things we know giving a basic into with a "ask me anything" on the end. This starts conversations instead of just asking questions and having them answered. Once we have a few threads like that we can shill and people will be interested.

On a related note, how does the owner feel about explosives threads covering safety, detonation physics and synthesis? I know a bit and amateur rocketry and assume that is fine but I also love talking about HE and have experience some with Nitric Esters and HMTD (the only organic peroxide I would ever produce and wouldn't recommend to others).

If it's not illegal in the US it shouldn't be a problem but there are other less forgiving states around the world who don't like people reading information like that.

I haven't looked at HE since about 2004. It always looked fun.

I'll wait for the mod to weigh in before going into details as it may draw heat even if it isn't strictly illegal. That said Nitrocellulose is the best HE for beginners but I recommend playing with R-candy and KNO3 / Al flash first. Stay away from Perchlorate flash is it can be very sensitive if any impurities exist.

Re: explosives - if it's published in a journal, I think it's pretty safe to discuss. Just don't tell people to blow anyone up, and chastise anyone who does.

Guys in >>>/tech/ doing some online course had mentioned weekly/monthly progress reports in IRC.

I like the idea of that and/or setting a day a week/month to get on a synchtube-esque channel to watch stuff together.

For god's sake proxy up if you're not comfortable discussing what you're doing face to face with your local intelligence agency.

I know in the past lots of sites have largely gotten away with discussing this kind of stuff but today is different. Everything is mainstream and there's a much wider audience of kidiots to fuck everything up.

HE guy here, I have already done this. It wasn't fun but I still have the right to free speech and talking about it isn't illegal here.
Check you local laws before joining the conversation and if you do produce anything keep it very small scale for both legal and physical safety. The main reason I walked was all by synth's were under 5 grams this showed I was doing it out of curiosity and not malicious intent.
I'll make an amateur rocketry thread latter as that is a fun hobby and good stepping stone.

I am very interested in discussing science here, but since I am a guy who didn't even pass high school I try to just discuss things in simple ways, this might not fit well with this board so I limit my postings.

Also, why not read some books about your favorite topics so that you can discuss it at a higher level?

But it's not like it's hard to find things to talk about in science. I can go on for hours with my labmate. Unfortunately my labmates, being normies, have very shallow and boring opinions outside the area they work in, so discussing things not pertaining to their work is a bit unsatisfying.

Hell, I'd just start dumping all my science -~"☆OPINIONS☆"~- here but I'm worried that will make it too obvious who I am if I'm the only one who does it - there's a few people I know who could easily be going here.

Also, shill all you want, but do keep in mind that there is such a thing as too much shilling. Single-digit poster counts aren't fantastic, but 20 active posters of at least decent quality is better than 500 active posters of garbage quality.
