i think its a perspective thing. these lines appear to spread out a lot because the light goes almost straight into the direction of the photographer. for someone who looks directly into the direction of the light source, rays that come from a distant light source and are almost parralel, look the same as rays that come from a close light source and spread out a lot. i made pic related to visualise it because its kinda hard to explain.

it has nothing to do with diffraction. what do you even mean, that the gaps between the clouds work as the slits and light spreads from there because of diffraction? visible light has a very short wavelength and the gaps between the clouds are very large. with this this wavelength and slit size diffraction is negible.
