Second year engineering student here,

if I have a quadratic function, a parabola,

would the parabola automatically be inverted if I use -x instead of x?

 No.3102

>>3101

no because a parabola is an even function; f(x) = f(-x).

the graph is mirrored horizontally.

>>3102

thats not true for every quadratic function, for example the graph of (x+1)^2 is shifted to the left but the graph of (-x+1)^2 is shifted to the right.

why did i do this

 No.3119

no, that's f(-x). If you make the function negative -f(x) it will do what you want.
