Any suggestions for a future CS major?

dont go to college its a waste of time. learn on your own for free and just get a job that will let you comfortably pay for internet and occasional electronics

The value of academic degrees in general has undergone huge inflation and now they are largely worthless. It used to be that only shit majors like interior design, business, and anthropology were worthless, but now even the hardcore majors like CS, math, and engineering are being affected. Blame for-profit education refusing to fail people who really should have been failed.

Most employers these days have caught on and will require related experience along with a degree. In order to get experience, you need to do internships. Do a coding internship every single summer that you are in college, without exception.

Also, start looking for an entry-level job during your final year. If you don't get a good job right out of college and work at burger king or whatever for a couple of years after you graduate, you will have serious trouble landing something decent.

Both of these suggestions are on the right track. Skip college and instead go to a coding bootcamp in SF. You can easily have a starting salary of 105k and not have 60k in college debt. Plus by the time your peers are done with college you will probably have 50k saved.

>the "degrees should be for career building" misconception

Ever since it's inception, the purpose of universities and higher education was to provide the so-called "useless" knowledge. If you wanted to do something useful, you'd go to a trade school.
