a7fddc No.169
Ahoy, m80! Welcome to 8chan's vidya pirate board.
These be the rules all ye scallywags must adhere to under penalty of being b& walking the plank:
1. Stay on topic (of copyright infringement)
2. Non-vidya related torrent threads are allowed, despite this board's vidya emphasis (a lot of us here care about vidya mostly)
2a. Here are the current non-vidya threads: music: >>501 animu >>1228 porn >>3569 movies general >>6202
3. Metaposts should head over to >>>/piracy/, which is also owned by /scurv/.
4. Global Rules apply, of course.
4a. DO NOT POST ANY COPYRIGHTED CONTENT DIRECTLY ON THE BOARD. Post only links to copyrighted content. Links are likely legal, but directly posted content is certainly illegal.
5. Popular keelhauling is allowed.
GET plunderin' thread: >>3012 new thread >>5639
SO YOU WANT TO BE A /scurv/DOG:
This should be enough to get you started >>247
http://pcgamingwiki.com/ for general needs
Posting Guidelines:
Don't be a moralfag. No one cares, and no one here is going to agree with you.
Check the torrent dump sticky - if not the entire catalog - before you make a request; if you make a request, you should do so here: >>3230
Fun is allowed; talking like a pirate is encouraged.
Do your part for the crew: post a link on /v/ to the board once in a awhile when there's one of the many threads in /v/ having to do with DRM/Early Access scams/DLC scams/downgrades/general industry Jewry
Suggested torrent clients:
>rtorrent - https://rakshasa.github.io/rtorrent/ (Windows at https://rtwi.jmk.hu/wiki/rTorrentOnWindows)
>Deluge - http://deluge-torrent.org/
>Qbittorent - http://www.qbittorrent.org/
>Transmission - http://www.transmissionbt.com/ (Windows at http://sourceforge.net/projects/trqtw/files/Transmission-Qt/)
>Halite - http://www.binarynotions.com/halite-bittorrent-client/
Suggestions to add to this sticky will be considered. That and other /meta/ stuff belongs in this thread. Custom CSS would be appreciated
Check the other sticky for torrent links and >>>/t/ for torrenting general. If you have a torrent board you want linked in the sticky, post it in this thread and we will consider adding it.
If a post is removed, check >>>/dmca/ to see if it was removed by a DMCA Request out of our control.

Well i would also like to add an explanation to another concept of torrenting that is a seedbox.
Seedbox are PC's that are hosted in countries like Netherlands where you can have remote access from your home and torrent without worrying about complaints from your ISP.
What good about them is that your can torrent at speed you wish you would have (think 165MB/s yes MegaByte/s) and be able to safely torrent and seed and leave it running 24/7. This can be good if you want to have a good ratio for private trackers.
However the files are on that pc that is not at your house, what do you do?
Well with seedbox you can use FTP (file transfer protocol) or SFTP (Secure FTP).
What the difference with torrenting it? well you ISP will be checking for bittorrent protocol and FPT/SFTP is mostly ignored since you can use it for a lot of things.
Also they can be used as VPN which can be good for the price.

a7fddc No.1218
>>1178
>>1210
Well, here's my opinion on the matter (tl;dr ahead; sorry):
On the one hand, I'm all for freedom and free speech and all that shit, and I'd hate to have to take the position of being a draconian asshole enforcing an extremely strict set of rules.
But on the other hand, this is a board for video game piracy. We have /v/ for video game discussion in general, and I'm sure there's a torrenting general board. It's just not congruent with the function/topic of the board to be posting things other than video game torrents - although the rules have been amended to allow for a limited number of non-vidya related torrenting threads. This to me seemed like a fair compromise; people are still able to post non-vidya torrents, but the function of the board remains intact and doesn't get cluttered with things other than vidya torrents.
I'm not one to give that "If you don't like it, no one is forcing you to be here" spiel on the matter, because I understand that there isn't currently a torrenting board as active as this one and so for torrenting in general one doesn't exactly have anywhere else to go, but then, on the other hand, there should be a torrenting general board in any event to accommodate the things you all want to post that aren't vidya. And I suppose some would argue that /v/ isn't a good place to discuss vidya in general depending on your opinions of /v/.
So that's where I currently stand on the matter. Not sure what the board owner's opinion is, but I'm open to compromises as long as the board keeps a clear focus and doesn't turn into another /v/ or an aimless generic torrent link dump.
I suppose the rules are somewhat vague about how to accommodate video game discussion in general, though. As long as it's done within reason and doesn't overtake the board, I certainly wouldn't start banning everyone who was talking about video games in general rather than video game piracy specifically.

Those threads for non-vidya torrents could also be a good place to link people to other torrenting boards that aren't currently as visible as /scurv/, by the way.

Personally, I'm of the opinion that general torrenting should be allowed here until it gets too crowded.
Then, the boards will naturally split up. /b/ had /cuteboys/, /cow/, and /furry/ stuck in it, but then those communities made their own boards. /pol/ itself is the origin of /christian/, /leftypol/, and /n/ communities.

that's p brilliant. Post it in meta.
As far as IDs go I'd just like to point out that IDs prevent shills from attempting to sink the board by breaking rules then reporting themselves.
While our globals aren't (mostly) dumb enough to fall for it, they could screencap it and try to forward it to authorities, start whining about the files not going down fast enough.
If it happened enough you'd get shut down, especially in the porn thread. (Vivid be hella tough to beat, possibly moreso than most legitimate hollywood companies)
This happened a few times on cuckchan /t/ that I recall, and it plagued smaller chans due to having MIA admins/owners and no real heart for prolonged legal action.
After all, just remember how useful IDs have been for dank meme gamergay screencaps.

At the moment, torrent requests haven't been much of a problem, but to answer yer question: Just use yer best judgment when posting and ye should be fine.
Before posting a request, at least check the torrent dump sticky (use ctrl+f), if not the catalog. Then, if ye can't find what you're looking for, make a thread requesting it.
But really, as long as there aren't a bunch of lazy fucks posting their own threads for requests, I doubt this would become an issue. It works both ways, though: People shouldn't be handing out torrent links to people like this who haven't bothered to look for themselves and are shitting up the front page with their unnecessary threads.

While it's not likely that the board wouldn't actually have any action taken against it, postin' torrents directly to the board would be in violation of the global rule. Wouldn't want to provoke the ire of the benevolent Admiral Seawheels.

I never figured out deluge, but I got qbittorrent 3.1.12 to work. I had to get rid of 3.2.0, because it be way too unstable.
I got 3.1.12 to download, even if it's a bit shaky at times, but greatly reducin' the number of peers I can connect to, turnin' off upnp support, turnin' off os cache, turnin' off ipv6 connections, and changin' the network interface.
I have to leave the program alone behind me browser or else it'll hang up a bit before lettin' me mess with it. I ran virus and malware scans with malwarebytes, superantispyware and mse and got nothing. me download speeds are good and I'm good to go.

Why do we restrict this board to bein' based primarily on vidya piratin' and just one thread on every other subject? I know that it's named "Vidya Pirating", but I feel like that keeps it from realizin' true potential. We've been in the top 25 before, and I think that we can get back up there if we open this board up to bein' just a general piracy theme. We are already almost there. All we need to do be change the name to "Piracy" and change the rules from favorin' vidya.
>But I only care about vidya piracy!
There's no reason that we still can't have vidya piracy on the board, and no reason that the board can't still be dominated by vidya piracy, but I think that a simple name change and rule adjustment could brin' a lot of activity and a lot of mateys in here.
Yeah there's other boards that already exist for general pirating, but they have nowhere near the activity of this board, which be already kind of low in activity.
Or maybe I'm autistic and this board should stay dedicated to vidya with just single threads for every other subject. What do ye think, mateys?
