6d00b2 No.1779

Greetings, fellow scallywags. I'm just gonna cut to the chase here, I've got no flippin' clue what VPNs to consider using fer me looting trips, or which ones aren't utter trash. Everywhere I go, there's another wooden-smiled swindler trying to convince me to rent their VPN to ride out into the tumultuous seas, claiming it'll keep me safe from the copyright-obsessed horrors of the deep seas that threaten to swallow me whole if they catch me. I swear, feels like I've searched the whole Seven Seas for a good one by now, and found nothin' but lies and false hope waitin' for me.

My whole problem is, I've got absolutely no clue what VPNs are hole-ridden canoes that'll fall apart 5 feet from the dock, which ones are designed to stop working and tell everyone about yer thieving exploits the moment the sharks show up, and which ones are actually-half-decent and hard to spot from a good ways off. Rather than takin' me chances and gamblin' me doubloons on the promises of random snake-oil salesmen, I figured I'd take the wiser option and ask me fellow scurvy dogs which VPNs they trust to carry them all the way to the booty and back again without being sighted.

So, let's all have at it then. Which VPNs can a prospectin' pirate actually trust his booty and his life with, and which ones should be kicked off the docks with an anchor tied to them like the trash they truly are? Tell yer fellow pirates who's good on their word and deserves the doubloons they request, and who's a back-bitin' snake to be avoided at all costs.

Arr, I be just as lost as OP

Bumping for the sake of both rekindling the thread and asking a specific question for me own purposes after some research.

I've looked at various VPN services so far, and the three that have stood out as being reasonable options are:

>NordVPN - $8 monthly

>IPVanish - $10 monthly

>ExpressVPN - ~$13 monthly

Now, I could easily afford to try all three out by buying if I really wanted to toss doubloons around willy-nilly like that, but I'd rather play it smart and ask ye skullduggery-inclined folk which ones will be the best speed, value and protection against getting caught and flogged for the price. Also, do be kind and speak up if any of these are total shit/useless/actively malicious, I'd definitely like to see a bullet coming so I can dodge it before I put cold hard coin down on testing something out.

Not to mention, I'm all ears if there's anything better than all three listed options, I'm just rooting around in the dark here hoping for the best.

Final thread bump, I just went ahead and picked NordVPN. Found a gift card with $8 still on it, which I was never going to use for anything else, so I said "fuck it" and got the VPN. So far, shit works exactly as expected, no slowdowns and it successfully spoofs me IP to testing sites. The time for me to set sail and plunder the loot of the great white whale Gaben has finally come.

Still though, feel free to use this thread for the purpose, sorry for mainly using it as a repository for me stupid questions.

I was in the land of burgers once, not once I navigated those seas without me VPN keeping the crown away

If ye are a murrican scallywag I recommend ye get a VPN matey, else ye will be hanging from a rope

Get one from the swedenyes, they might be kebab-lovers but they don't rat ye out to the crown

48d682 No.3204

privateinternetaccess gives ye a nifty program that does all the work for ye as well as 20+ different locations to choose

also very good speeds on a few locations

minus be that they are located in america, but unless ye are 2edgy4baph you'll be fine

that concludes me shill

What do ye scurvy bastards think about BTGuard?

aaea4a No.3702

Thanks for the thread, laddies. I've been looking for a good VPN since the government brought in data-retention laws.

Just a question though; how much will using one slow down me traffic? I live down under so distance might be a significant problem.

Also; will it possibly allow me to upload and seed at a faster rate? I want to give back to the community.

PIA be one of the few VPNs that were not only affordable, but had publicly accessable speedtest tools regarding their servers, other VPNs i had a look around (ExpressVPN and a few others) didnt have speedtests (ExpressVPB SORTA did, but via their mobile trial..) didnt really have them.

plus they added a RU VPN server, so now i can get cheap games/software via RU pricing

de1762 No.3725

>>3702

Depends on where ye are from and what ye are connecting to, me (Aussie) i lose about half me connection speed (which thanks to me location im at the max speed of ADSL2+) when i connect to PIA servers in the states, but i lose loads more when i go further away from it.

Again, depending on where ye go ye will lose speed, some servers ye might lose a little, others may be too much to be of any real use

I mean it's from some of the TPB guys so it should be bretty gud, right?

Another look at the FAQ it seems everything related to the VPN (server location, other tools etc) are inside the login area, sounds a bit suss to me man

>[…]and that connection speeds were very ropey. Still, the encryption used be top notch and no usage logs are kept (which are the most important features as far as we are concerned), so the service be far from bad. It’s just that there are better ones out there.

Already started reading and i dont like it

>One device can be connected at the same time

>50 servers in sweden, and thats it, so no way to bypass geo blocking which means useless to many VPN users

At least it comes with TOR exit nodes.

No sir i do not like it, seems to be more of a starting up VPN service then anything else.

3319fa No.4881

I don't see what all the concern with VPNs be about. I've been plunderin' and seedin' since the days of old with me Jolly Roger flown high and proud with no VPN to hide me. And all the while I've seen neither hide nor hair of the Crown's lackeys.

What am I doin' right?

Depends on what yer downloadin' mate, not piratin' popular stuff be enough to get people to ignore you, and usin' a VPN be good for bypassin' data retention laws and to dodge geo blockin' like here in australia

Newfag here, how be FrootVPN? I got it while it be free durin' that Piratebay promotion or whatever it was. Haven't actually tried usin' it before but be it good or should I get rid of it for bein' unsafe?

Considerin' Piratebay's proven a turncoat to the coppers and the MPAA/RIAA, I wouldn't personally trust nothin' that they promote as good. Also, free VPNs are generally a bad sort, even if they only be free temporarily, the price for the good ones be well worth paying.

Has anyone tried faceless.me ? I just want a somewhat good free torrent and that one seems nice and be not on 'murica.

>>4881

Me neither but it depends on the country. US had fake torrents some time ago where they would arrest every fuckin' one who downloaded it, it be really unpopular so they stopped. ye can probably still get arrested in the US and no fun allowed shitholes like japan and australia.

Yeah, I can't find much info about people who used it since few people actually have it.

I don't know, I did that DNS leak test to see if it covered me and it does. Says I'm in Sweden. Probably not goin' to use it and just download unpopular or dead things, like I've been doing.

97ae6d No.6399

is there a single decent free VPN? me connection be slow as molasses so I don't care about speed.

2dd1e6 No.6434

Tryin' mullvad out right now because some m80s on /tech/ suggested it. Speeds seem to be acceptable especially considerin' it's located in cuckland.

>>6399

Free VPNs are honeypots. Might as well torrent naked, it would be safer.

4ff664 No.6440

exit nodes around the world

fairly responsive staff for troubleshootin' legitimate issues

currently 28.99 for a whole year's access

support for multiple vpn programs (includin' openvpn)

speeds are OK at about ~2-4 MB/s (they are variable dependin' on traffic, bunch of other shit, but I can definitely say it be often not as fast as me ISPs 60mbps down)

don't keep logs of yer shit (look up the appropriate article on torrentfreak)

1d3d38 No.7841

Yarr just reportin' that me NordVPN connection be always havin' DNS issues and goes down for a few minutes at least once a day. Though their policies are good, there may be better options. I will likely try another when me subscription expires.

4e86d1 No.7969

Am I missin' somethin'

Isn't it counter intuitive payin' for a subscription to one of these? I really don't want to put me cc info and shit basically puttin' who I am out there usin' these.
