Im currently using (as a recomendation from /g/ and their wiki) Comodo Internet Security as well as malwarebytes, havent had any issues yet for the week ive been using them after fucking off AVG for constantly killing me DJMax install, not to mention they both dont randomly throw popups and shit in me face at random times

I'm using Avast.

Not a single virus since then.

In another computer I HAD to use Symantec Endpoint Protection. The thing quarantined a crack I had for years and told me it was a Trojan. I honestly believe the antivirus just don't like cracks, and the crack in question be only doing what it's supposed to do.

Seconding Avast, used it for years and rarely I got false positives. The only bad thing be the popups once in a while in the free version, other than that it's the best antivirus I used.

If you're extremely paranoid perform a virus scan and try and install the game in a virtual machine before doing anything on yer actual machine.

The crack had a virus? Just delete the virtual machine and you're set.

Also an MSE person. Used to do malewarebytes but their redesign made them look like a regular fake AV and it's just unnerving to look at.

Downloaded Bitdefender and this shit be awesome, also has an optimizer built into it so I don't even need AVG Pc Tuneup anymore either. Plus it helps that I did a system refresh the other day too, pc ran like absolute shit and now it runs fine

Windows be self be a virus, so using anti virus be like wiping yer ass while swimming in a pool of fieces.

A simple way to be pirates while having security be using 2 computers at once.

>a powerful botnet machine for windows 8 and games (never check mail or login to any sites using this machine)

>a "clean" low power machine (netbook / 2nd hand thinkpad) using linux/bsd, this machine should be use for emails/financial/banking/diary/notes/school/torrenting

>periodically reformat yer botnet machine (if malware clogged up the system to a point of slowing down)

I've been using this setup for the past 3 years, i get the best of both worlds.

Microsoft Security Essentials + Malwarebytes

ac7980 No.3480

The best anti-virus be yer own goddamn common sense.

Everytime ye run something that looks like an executable ye should first check if the source it came from be trust worthy.

Not just .exe, learn some more extensions. Protip: that "jenna jameson.scr" be not a real screensaver.

When you're in torrent sites, check what group released the crack. This days, 3DM and R.G.Mechanics dominate the scene with Skidrow trailling behind. Times change, check everyone in a while what are the players.

And even if it says [3DM] in the torrent title, check the uploader or the comment section.

There's plenty of landlubbers screaming "VIRUS" when their faggy anti virus picks up a keygen.

Now son, there's gonna be times where ye have to take a risk. ye donwloaded somethign from somewhere fishy and ye don't trust it 100%.

Wanna be safe? Get Oracle VM, and learn how to Virtual Machine. Takes only a few minutes, let's ye test stuff really easy.

Yes, ye can slap an anti virus on the VM too, but that won't help with false positives.

For that ye need to know the most important thing: being an antivurs yourself.

Computer slow? Opening links on itself?

Internet speed just plummeted? Watch for this signs. ye might have a virus.

(more on next post)

ac7980 No.3484

HELP, I MAY HAVE A VIRUS

Hang on son, don't ye go running off to download 30 anti-virus and making "free scans" on yer computer. They're not free, and they're gonna isntall adware which in me opinion be worse than most malware

Step one: Install Ccleaner. And no, it's not for the faggy "scan" every cabin boy uses.

Look up the Startup section. See if any fishy application be there.

Yes, 90% of the malware nowdays be shitty as fuck. And ye can spot it this easily.

You can also open yer Task Manager (that thing ye use to kill yer browser in a hurry so people don't find out yer sick porn habits**.

Look for any process name that ye don't know. And I mean processes, the other tab idiot.

Learn to check this thing regulary. It's great to spot memory leaks, and locked up shit.

HELP, I THINK I SEE A VIRUS

The process manager should give it's name. Even the location.

If you're a stupid landlubber, ye just deleted it.

If you're a smart Salty Dog, you're yer own goddamn anti-virus.

So you're gonna open "regedit". Just type that in the windows start menu, or find it yourself ye lazy bum.

Now, "F3" and search for the name of the damn thing. Keep pressing F3 until ye find a registry key with it. Should even have the path to it and all.

Found it? Delete the fucker. The resgistry entry I mean.

Search some more. Delete them all.

Now the damn thing won't fire up again.

Kill the process. Now delete it.

Congratulations, ye just did what yer antivirus does, without having to pay 200$ to the greedy company that made the virus in the first place.

Don't deny it, ye know they did, everyone does.

ac7980 No.3492

FINAL ADVICE

There's only two more types of Virus ye may find.

Adware be a bit more trickybecause those cabin boys like to play "whackamole" with you. ye delete one, and another pops up.

WHAT NOW?

Quite easy to spot these: you'll find a process running in a folder with a weird ass name. And everytime ye do, it's another diferent weird name.

Something like "c:\Programs\ASdjsdh2039\furry_virus.exe"

And the next "c:\Programs\gkj394dj\funny_vilus.exe"

If you're not as stupid as a Spanish Captain, ye know that something, somewhere be just copying over the original virus over and over again everytime ye delete it.

So ye do what the Spanish did to the Aztecs. ye kill the number 1 fucker first.

It can be another process running. It can be an extra plugin in yer browser that ye didn't install (these one's will check for the virus everytime ye boot the browser again, and create a new one if they don't find it so they're easy to spot).

Sometimes it gets really hard to spot them, so get something called "process explorer".

Really fucking easy to find, it's onlyt a few Kb and helps with a TON of shit.

Specifically, ye want the Search function. Search the name of the current virus. Shoudl tell ye WHO opened it. Aka: the process that be the original number 1 virus.

Protip: if it's yer browser, then it was one of those addons.

Remove them from registry like ye did the others, and then kill, remove it.

Finnaly, here's a bit of wisdom: most virus don't fuck up with yer computer has much as people think. I remove all that do, and if a virus doesn't bug me, it can stay for all I care. If it does something illegal (like making me part of a botnet) it's not me fault, the police can't arrest me. Protip: if you're helping someone to DDoS something and get caught, ye can use this excuse too.

The second type of Virus I meant to talk about was the one's that escape this rule.

I'm talking really nasty shit. Stuff that phlashes yer BIOS and sets yer CPU to burn. Stuff that corrupt yer entire HDD. Stuff that hardlocks ye out of windows.

You'll never see this stuff happen. The people who have the skill to make them do not give a single shit about ye or me. They have real targets to use them.

The people who target ye and me are shitty russian/brazillians 14 year old script kiddies who downloaded a tool or two from the net (and infected themselves without realizing) and are trying to steal yer Steam account.

You don't need a fucking Anti Virus to defend agaisnt them. Just yer fucking brain.

Malware bytes be pretty good lads, easy to use keys, and then just upgrade to the newer version

Just turn of ye Website alerter when torrenting, it'ds be annoying

ac7980 No.3592

>>3517

Never heard of that one. Which I supose it's a good thing.

Then again, we could hop onto Wikipedia and found a plethora of nastier things, I'm sure.

What I meant be that hackers, REAL hackers have better things to do than steal yer steam account. And trust me, if they want to steal yer steam account, they won't need a "virus" or anything of the sort.

It's important t remember that Anti Virus are popular due to 2 things: script kiddies and fear.

Everyone has that distant uncle that one day visited a porn site and his computer had horse cocks as a wallpaper for a week.

So everyone be afraid of porn on the internet literally, any time ye hear normies talking about porn, it doesn't take 10 seconds for them to talk about virus. Or the other way around. Got a virus? Means you've been watching porn.

Script kiddies are countered with common sense. Not with 200$ software that eats up 30% of yer CPU.
