I don't think piracy be ever going to be any more viable than it be today. ye can go out and try to rob a vessel right now, but the thing be a lot of them have hired guns these days, and even if society were to collapse guns aren't going anywhere.

I don't know. Personally I'd be content with privateering. That would probably get most militaries off yer ass. Unfortunately in 2015 there's no fun allowed, so looting foreign vessels be probably considered a war crime or something.
