Ahoy, mateys!

I managed to get me an ol' phat PS2 with extra loot fer a measly 34 shillings.

As it may be, me computer does nae have the strength to emulate it, so I had to buy it at King Alexander's flea market.

Most of the games were FIFA shite and San Andreas, so I bought Black, Timesplitters FP, and Final Fantasy X in case that I'm not able to plunder more games fer the PS2.

So me question is: how do I modify me PS2 to play plundered games?

Preferably in a manner which doesn't require the purchase of too many other tools.

6031a4 No.3087

Do ye have a memory card, screw driver and a blank dvd? If that's pretty much all ye need to mod yer ps2

68b589 No.3096

>>3087

It is? Because everyone be telling me I need 007: Agent Under Fire, and some other thingamajigs

f989c1 No.3593

Personally, I have a swap magic installed on me PS2. For what ye spend on the flip top, I think it's worth the cost. Pick up a kit on eBay with the CD and DVD launcher discs.

f989c1 No.3594

Oh, and FMCB. FMCB be the greatest thing out there

d8cd47 No.3599

>>3096

That's what me cousin did. I have a copy of a hacked memory card. I don't know how I could spread copies of it effectively though.

at this point, 95% of the time you're better off emulating PS2 games than playing them on a legit PS2, simply because for modern standards PS2 has a pretty shitty resolution.

as for ISOs, everything you'll ever want to play can be DD'ed from emuparadise.com

the only game i haven't been able to emulate properly so far was Snake Eater, had some graphic glitches.

3d3fc0 No.3603

>>3601

While PS2 resolution be rather shit (640x360 / 640x480)

You would use a crt tv for that and PCSX2 still sucks for couple games like ratchet and clank, rhythm games, etc.

fb36a5 No.3605

I have a slim PS2, so I don't have access to a hard drive to dump games onto, but here's what I did

>Made an ISO of 007: Agent Under Fire

>Followed the steps in some Jewtube video to modify the ISO

>Burned that to a DVD

>Played the game up until the second mission

>At mission select, quickly opened up the lid, swapped discs, and closed the lid before the game crashed

>Launched mission

>Free McBoot installed itself to me memory card

>Had a modified PS2

I think I tried opening up the fucker to do weird shit with the lid sensor and I didn't work, so I channeled me inner Sanic and lived without.

Playing any game requires downloading the ISO, patching it, and burning it to a DVD. It's not convenient, but it be handy to have a physical lying around, and it's nice to play whatever I like on hardware, and not having to worry about PCSX2 being the massive abortion that it is.

ea855e No.3607

>>3096

I bought a copy at EB Games a few years back and could never get it going right. I ended up taping over the sensors and using it to play burnt PS1 games in the end.

I've actually beaten the first three R&C games on PCSX2.

It's really quite fun once ye get used to the glitchy-ness and slowdown.

>pics related

The "®1" means I've beaten the game at least once on that save.

Go and emulate Ace Combat Zero without glitches or it playing like it's in slow motion then.

It's easier to use 007 method because the exploit be easier to pull off. But if ye don't have it, ye can use any disc and manually inject the mod installer in the iso copy of the game and burn it. If i were ye doing this method, i'd find someone with a slim ps2 and install it. All you're doing be installing a fake dirmware on the memory card, just put the card in the fat ps2 adn you're done.

The HDD OSD exploit tis the best method for running ye ISO's me bucko.

It's so simple a salty dog like ye could do the same.

I used this same method meself in order to play Resident Evil Outbreak Online again.

Here's a list of plunder ye need.

Is it chipped? can ye run copies?

You can look for a network adapter and play games from the HDD, better loading time and no spending doubloons on dvdrs

She's all clean. For now.

So all I need to do be get a HDD, a USB to IDE cable, a PS2 Network Adapter and the required files, follow the steps in this video >>3741,

and I'll be able to run any PS2 iso from there?

Let's hope eBay can ship fast enough.

Nah the NA has an IDE socket, ye can plug an HDD directly to it

fda50b No.3890

God I almost want to emulate, everything this console puts out looks awful. Most games don't do above 480i, it looks bad no matter what kind of cables I'm using, no matter the display. Does anyone know if the slims look any better? It'd lose the convenience of not having to burn discs, but I'd prefer that to interlacing artifacts everywhere.

e41d97 No.3892

i haven't used it in forever, i gave it to me cousin, but swap magic was a gem. paid extra for the flip top cover of the ps2, and had literally every single game i had any marginal value of, downloading 100 mb rapidshare links at a time. good days.

of course now i'd rather emulate it, if i hadn't beaten everything on it i'd ever want to play, since the emulator plays on a toaster

I have a fat PS2. I installed the Network Adapter and an older 150GB maxtor ide hard drive in it. I then bought SwapMagic (for dirt cheap online) then followed the instructions on FMCB's site to install FMCB from a usb stick onto a memory card.

Using WinHIIP, I can transfer ISOs from emuparadise to the HDD.

all ye need be a ps2 network adapter, a compatible hard drive, and someway to connect ye hard drive to a computer. Might need a SATA to IDE adapter if ye want to use a SATA hard drive.

I recently got meself a phat PS2 (SCPH-3001) as well. Here's me method to installing Free McBoot without opening up the console:

>What ye be needin':

1. USB flash drive, formatted to FAT32

1. Codebreaker v10 disc (Ye actually be needin' a legitimate version of this one, lad. I got mine in a package that looked mighty similar to pic 1.)

1. Spare PS2 memory card with data ye couldn't be carin' less about (A real one, no bootleg will do.)

>What ye be doin':

1. Download all the .zip files here: http://bootleg.sksapps.com/tutorials/fmcb/codebreaker.php

2. Copy "UlaunchELF.cbs" to yer flash drive from the fmcb_cb.zip, and be uncompressin' the "Noobie_Package.rar" and "Free_McBoot_1.8b.rar" to the root of the drive as well (Hold yer horses, lad: Don't copy "pelican.bin" yet). Merge all the folders if it asks.

3. Head over to that there console and plug in the drive, turn it on and boot up Codebreaker. Also, take out yer memory cards with save data on them, and plug in yer spare to slot 1.

4. Let it load proper to the main menu, and decline if it asks to install data to the memory cards. Head on over to device manager and be selectin' the flash drive, and copy UlaunchELF.cbs to the card. Exit device manager and then turn off ye console.

5. Yer gonna wanna be stickin' yer drive in yer computer, and copyin' "pelican.bin" to the root of the drive.

6. Put the drive back in the PS2, and boot up Codebreaker. It'll load up like normal, but instead of going to the main menu, it'll be heading off to a new menu called "SMS".

7. Once this loads up (should be lookin' like pic 2), press Start and head down that menu to browser settings and press X. Head down the next menu to the very bottom. Press X until the option be readin' "Exit to: mc0:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF" (mc0:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF be that ULaunchELF.cbs we copied earlier.)

8. Press triangle, and select "Exit SMS".

9. ye should have a screen similar to me third picture now. Press O, then head down to "mass:/", which be yer drive.

10. Press O to select "FREE_MCBOOT.ELF" from yer drive.

11. Once this gets to be bootin' it should be seemin' like me 4th picture. Head over to "multiversion install", and if it gives ye somethin' like "could not find modules", then turn off yer PS2, take out the drive, and copy everything at the root to the "INSTALL" folder and try it again from step 5.

12. Ye should be findin' that there be quite some text poppin' up. Wait until ye see a screen like pic 5.

13. Reset the console and take out Codebreaker. FreeMcboot should show up.

Ye might be sayin to yerself right now, "but what do I do with this?" Well, that'll be in me next post.

ESR be a program that'll be lettin' ya play a good number of burned games. It should've installed when ye installed FreeMcboot.

>What ye be needin':

1. Blank DVD per game. People say DVD-R only or only certain brands, I've had success with DVD R+W from Sony so it really doesn't matter.

1. ImgBurn

1. PS2 .iso (.isos from DVD based games only)

>What ye be doin':

1. First things be first, check if yer .iso be compatible with ESR here: http://www.epforums.org/showthread.php?80824-ESR-Compatibility-List-Over-500-PS2-games-tested-and-counting (If it's not listed, ye can still give it a shot. The worst that'll happen be ye wasting some time and a disc.)

2. Download the ESR patcher from here: http://theisozone.com/downloads/playstation/tools/esr-disc-patcher-gui-v024a-usa/

3. Extract it, and open the patcher (should look like the first image), and click "Patch". Navigate to yer .iso file, and click "Open". A box should appear almost right away sayin' it was successful.

4. Open up ImgBurn, put in yer DVD, and burn the .iso to the disc at x4 speed. If ye be browsin' /scurv/, ye should know how to do this. (pic 2)

5. Preferably, ye should be labelin' yer disc with a marker or some such item. It isn't required, obviously.

6. Boot up yer PS2 with FreeMcboot on it, don't put in the disc yet.

7. Scroll down the main menu, and select ESR. Let this load up until ye see a screen like pic 3.

8. Put in ye burned disc here, and select "load CDVD".

9. The game should be loadin' and workin'.

I got the english patch of Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix workin' on me first try.
