/secretrule/ - The Game

A rotating square table contains four pockets, one for each corner. Within each pocket, a shot glass lies either upright or upside down. The pockets are such that the shot glass orientation can only be determined by touch. The goal is have all the shot glasses in the same orientation.

One is allowed to flip the shot glasses in the following manner: First the table is rotated so that it is impossible to keep track of any particular pocket and stopped in a statistically determined orientation. Then, any two pockets are chosen for examination. These pockets are then examined by hand and shot glasses flipped as desired. After this is complete and the hands are out of the pockets, a bell is rung if and only if the goal is met. This entire procedure constitutes a 'move'.

Is there a procedure that guarantees that the goal is met in a finite number of moves?

Thought about this and the sеxy rulе all day and think I figured this out first:

1. Pick two diagonal corners and orient them both up, if not solved then;

2. Pick two adjacent corners and orient them both up. You know either have 0 or 1 down shot glasses. If not solved;

3. Pick 2 diagonal corners;

a. If one is down, flip it up and it's solved.

b. If both are up, flip one;

From here I'm not 100% sure this is optimal, but it solves it I suppose:

4. Pick two adjacent pockets, and flip both glasses. The puzzle won't be solved.

5. Pick two diagonal pockets, and flip both.

The puzzle will be solved.

This is going to be a LONG round...

We can see that posts with equal content sometimes do, sometimes don't break the sеxy rulе.

It also appears that breaking the sеxy rulе occurs more often at some times than at others; posts breaking the sеxy rulе cluster together. However, there doesn't appear to be a simple correlation.

For personal reference, previous Sqochit rounds or possibly just rounds he made the sticky update for

We know Sqochit likes IDs. We know Sqochit likes comparing two values. I also think it's a pretty safe bet that Sqochit doesn't like sеxy rulеs that are based on the quality of the post (no talking about dreaming, etc) although I've briefly considered him liking a round such as no meta-discussion.

Screw it, I'm gonna say something weird I noticed in the interest of this round getting solved eventually.

It's kind of odd that posts where the seconds are >30 but the minutes <30 never get banned, even in the middle of ban 'clusters'

I haven't been able to string it together into anything useful, though, maybe someone else can.
