Any version's fine. The SNES version has a lot of glitches (vanish+doom, sketch, the entire evasion stat not working, etc.) but is otherwise perfectly serviceable. The GBA version has more exclusive content and postgame dungeons, so barring the limitations of the GBA soundchip, it's pretty much the definitive version. FF6 just came out on steam recently, but like with the port of 5, it's just a copy-paste of the iOS version. And while 5's iOS port is at least kind of decent, 6's sadly is not. I wouldn't recommend it over the GBA or SNES.

Yeah, Normal is a little tough, so if you've got a low frustration threshold it's probably best to start there. If you get to the higher difficulties you'll want to jump down and fill out your trophies on the lower difficulties anyway. You will have to get all plats on Normal or above for reasons, though.

Yeah,only the default actually changes with combos and summons, so it's probably best for a first game. The Link costume ability is the same as the Moon of Mahaa Kalaa accessory, which you have to pay for and takes one of your two slots.
