"Science" Fiction
I started watching Defiance a while ago. The show is decent enough, not as brilliant as some of the other stuff that exists, like Breaking Bad or Daredevil, but fun to watch. However, what bothers me is that I was promised a sci-fi show, and so far, it has nothing science-y on it. I like to imagine the show in a true fantasy setting, and it works.
>Rugged protagonist
Make him a rogue knight.
>Aliens
They all look freaking human anyway, so just make them humans or dwarves or shit.
>Guns
Replace with swords
>Alien invaders
Replace with the army of the dark lord.
And so on. Anyway, my point being, why the fuck do people accept everything as science fiction just because it has starships in it?
Invitation to /lit/
Hey guys, ambassador from /lit/ here. Considering you're reading books (unless you're a faggot who thinks Mass Effect is Hard SF, in which case you can gtfo), we thought we'd ask you to join us for a cup of tea in our first official crossboard tea party: >>>/lit/7861/

Things you dislike in SF
Alternatively: Things that always puzzle you in SF.Let's create a hard scifi setting
Heyo /sf/! I love sci-fi. Especially hard sci-fi.
I also love world-building and world-building threads, so why not combine the three?
The rules are simple:
In this thread we come together to create a hard-scifi universe.
You post some lore with the only two rules being that it has to be
A: scientifically accurate and B: not against any lore someone else posted above you.
Please don't be a dick and work around something someone already posted, for example:
>Anon A:"The Federation lost the war."
>Anon B:"BUUUUT They managed to create a new technology that allowed them to revert time, tell their past selves what to do and they then won the war."
That would be a dick move. Don't be a dick.
I will start:
> Humanity has not left the solar system yet.
Greetings, /sf/aggots (gotta come up with a better name). This board used to be dead as disco for long enough. It's gotten a lot better since I shilled it on some other boards, but more needs to be done, and there's only so much shitposting I can do on /b/ to shill /sf/.
My question is, how can we get more posters? What other boards can I shill on without being a complete dick? /lit/ and /liberty/ come to mind, but other than that, I am not really sure.
good books to read
I'm doing biology and chemistry at college and stuff. And I'm expected to do some wider reading for them if I wanna add some things I've done outside of the classroom when I write my personal statement to go into Uni. Can anyone recommend me some good books, fictional or non-fictional, to read? Preferably rare ones.RequiresHate
SF-author Benjanun Sriduangkaew has turned out to be both a troll and a very spiteful reviewer on the Blog "RequiresHate". Among other things, it has become known that she harassed a rape-victim for months because said victim claimed that recovering from rape was a good thing. Benjanun also told authors that they should get raped by dogs, drink acid and so on. Now she has posted apologies on her sites, but personally, I doubt they are honest, and if they are, they are not nearly enough./wars/ - Star Wars General Discussion
Star Wars is leaning more in the direction of science fantasy, but fits within the umbrella of /sf/./x/ X-Files Thread
The X-Files is one of my favorite shows. It was just so good at taking a ridiculous idea and making it believable and threatening. It was great at humor. I enjoyed it even in Season 9 but I think the second movie was a huge letdown.
