Hard science fiction thread

pic related is the only good thing in this genre to come out in the last 10 years

 No.29

Will have to look into that one OP. Haven't read any good SF books recently.

this is really good stuff

Peter Watts' books are very good too. The writing style is a bit hard to get into, but it's totally worth it. He explores interesting ideas, has likable characters and a lot of A-grade technobabble about cool technologies. Also, he's a genius at depicting alien minds. It's like Mass Effect, except the polar opposite.

Blindsight was pretty terrible, all the zombie/vampire/split identity shit turned me off about 60 pages in. Not exactly what I expected.

I picked up this recently and blew through the whole trilogy, I couldn't stop. I recommend.

What about the Martian? It's quite hard SciFi, only very few, if admittedly major, errors are present.

The departure:themes of an overpopulated earth, a bit 1984ish, our relationship with ever advancing technology, and where it might put us, I found it a believable dystopia.

Action packed like the Bourne Identity.

 No.522

>>462

Somehow, I'm not all that interested in it. Doesn't sound like it explores any heavy themes.

>>519

Doesn't sound too bad, might give it a try. Thanks, mane.

Hate to say it but that's a huge turn-off for me right there.

Dune was my ideal sci-fi series because it was really about politics and heroes, and was set in a futuristic universe.

I'm not about that action-packed stuff unless it makes for an interesting plot device (not "X has been slain!")

Anyone recommend anything similar?

What do you really expect to happen BO?

————————————————————–

Anyway, that aside. Neal Asher is based, love his books. Been looking for decent sci-fi books for ages though, so I'm glad I stumbled across this. Will probably give Leviathan Wakes a read when I get the chance, unless

can suggest a better one.
