Dukat was a great villain. A lot of clichés but still fun.

I can't believe they got away with this scene. I loved it, and the whole episode (wish these guys had come back) but how did they manage to do it?

The next show should definitely be much darker since that's what people seem to like these days. Most importantly, it should depart from Gene's "muh utopia, put the guns away!" vision, and delve into more realistic territory.
It could be a Romulan show, with political intrigue and assassination. I think that might get kind of boring after a while, expecting everyone to assassinate each other.
A Klingon show would be great fun. Cameos from Worf and a number of other characters. It would be more of an action show which would keep the pleb-minded audiences hooked. You could sort of keep the Romulan-ish aspects in with the rivalry between the Great Houses.
Possibly more entertaining is the idea of a fractured Federation. You can have some old favorites reappear, like Picard, Janeway and Sisko, and of course have all the new people. Don't make them younger to appeal to younger audiences though. Keep them older and people to look up to who don't betray their ship for some 2/10 romulan ass like Moot did.
I just don't think the standard "fly to x planet defeat y posing as god" storyline Star Trek has will work for every single episode.

Why did TNG have the weakest movies of the franchise? First Contact was fantastic, but everything else was good to bad.
No.181
>>173The originals did have I and V which were pretty damn weak, especially the last one.
The Final Frontier was just so shitty.

>>131Yes, yes and yes. I would love a Romulan show, but I agree it would tire. I love the idea of fractured Federation, grizzled war vets, new alliances more of a cold war deal, its great.
I agree on the storyline deal, my favorite classic and TNG eps were always the ones where something just batshit insane started happening. Like a twilight zone eps without an introduction.

I'm starting to get into star trek. Still in the first season but I'm completely shocked at how well done the science is. I honestly didn't expect it to be anywhere near this good, it seems the ideas behind the episodes are still very plausible and relevant even today.
Not only that but in my opinion the atmosphere of the show somehow just seems to capture the spirit of scientific curiosity really well. I'd say it blows a lot of modern junk way out of the water.
I hope it stays like this in later series. Although I wouldn't be surprised if the show eventually takes a turn where it starts to get full of itself and focus more on its own invented story lines rather than on science and exploration, that always seems to happen with good shows eventually.
