>>76SG1 and Atlantis were undeniably the best. Both shows had well-timed and well-written humor, the bad aliens were fun, and the good aliens were fun. The ship designs were absolutely amazing, and I'll even call the ship designs in Universe fantastic.
Universe was something I just couldn't enjoy. It got a lot better in Season 2, and it was unfortunate that it was cancelled in some ways. It could very well have improved to the point that I would have liked it. It just felt 2edgy4u and was being a poor Voyager/BSG ripoff.

God stargate is still one of my favorite shows to this day. It's a shame what Roland Emmerich wants to do and fucking reboot it again, ignoring the 14 years of TV cannon
No.114
>>113I can't remember where I read it, but Roland Emmerich was complaining about the TV shows and calling them inferior to his "masterpiece". I might have imagined the last part, but I'm certain he stated his dislike.
Probably pissed that they were received much better than the movie.

http://www.themarysue.com/stargate-reboot-will-have-to-start-over/From what I've read in other articles, they're going to pull a "Hobbit" and make the first book into 3 movies rather than one like the 1994 movie did.
No.118
>>114The show also managed to cast an O'Neill that I actually liked. The one in the movie was bland.
No.119
>>117>>117Why do they have to reboot it? Why can't they just make a good show, set it in the Triangulum Galaxy or something, and start from there?
End five to ten years later, ratings and financial success, and have a blast doing it?
No.121
>>117The only way I'd be happy with the reboot is if they did a parallel universe thing.
Imagine the opening shot showing the SG-1 team zooming out and we see the parallel universe mirror, then it cuts to Egypt 1942 in and movie starts from there.
No.122
>>121Still not sure I could be happy with a reboot. It just seems kind of cheap to take a great idea that has been done and re-do it.
Although I greatly preferred the new BSG to the old.

>>121All I know for certain is that the O'neil in the new movie won't have the same Sarcastic charm and wit as RDA brought to it, unless they cast Bill Murray

I prefer the original stargate effect that they used in the movie and up to about season 7 or so of SG1.
The later one is nice but too much like the time vortex in Doctor Who.

>>129As do I.
I also enjoyed the nod the orginal movie in the Ark of Truth when the Odyssey went through the super gate and the one we got to see them be deconstructed, but not only that, the one we see get deconstructed was Daniel again.

Where would Stargate go now that Earth has Goa'uld, Tok'ra, Tollan, Alteran, Ancient, Ori, Wraith, and Asgard tech?
They have the BC-304s with ridiculously high kiloton yields on their nukes, railguns good at point defence, and asgard beam weapons which are pretty much good at anything. They can beam nukes onto ships.
They have the fucking Lost City of the Ancients, Zero Point Modules coming out their asses, a decent number of drones.
They have a Time-travelling puddle jumper and several ways of travelling through time. They could literally reverse any defeat.
Did they write Earth a bit too powerful or is it just me?

>>1528-10 BC-304s
Atlantis
A number of Puddle Jumpers
A number of Goa'uld cargo ships, bombers and other small craft.
8-16 F-302s per BC-304 (Plus a large number stationed at Earth and various offworld outposts. Probably some on Atlantis too)
And they're perfectly capable of stealing Wraith ships or Lucian Alliance ships whenever they feel like it.

>>114>his "masterpiece"That film was fucking shit relative to SG1. It was good in 1994, but 20 years from now I might watch a few eps of SG1, but I won't remember the original film.
SG1 and Atlantis were the probably one the top 50 things that appeared on any screen for the last two decades. Definitely top 10 for sci fi, but also for theater and tv as a whole.
>>152In my opinion the show should stay dead, it's so rare for a good tv show to have a satisfying ending before being cancelled. But if we really wanted more stargate you could always write in an even more powerful crusading enemy from another galaxy with unforeseeably powerful tech and the Tau'ri struggling to defend two galaxies with it's limited resources and manpower, I doubt I'd watch it if they don't recast any SG1 or SGA actors though.
No.164
>>152Doesn't have anywhere to go really, this is why Universe fell so flat on its face. Earth pretty much owns the entire universe at this point, they would have to pull something out of their ass to be a threat and it would just be stupid.
Was it bad to let Earth get this powerful? If it had happened within a few seasons probably, but it was more of a slow build up during of 10 seasons of SG-1 and 5 seasons of Atlantis. It worked, it was fun watching them slowly be able to stand up on an even playing field with the aliens.
No.171
>>164Unfortunate in some ways that it happened, but I guess it had to happen at some point. I think they chose a very good timescale to add on the various technology as well.
15 years of getting super lucky and stealing tons of alien spaceships and making alliances with god-tier aliens has to get you somewhere.

No.214
>>178They really weren't, though. Anubis was pretty much an ascended Ancient. He brought a new level of technology to them, and really shook up their structure. Ba'al swept in afterward and picked up his pieces. By that point we had the replicators and the Lucien alliance which each presented a different kind of threat.
No.222
>>214I guess, but I just feel like it would've been better to run more enemies parallel with the ones they did.
And for it to be slightly more creative like the replicators. Most of the enemies in SG1 and Atlantis were all just humanoids with slightly better tech.
Examples would be
> low-tech zerg type species consuming every star system in it's path.> Anything non-humanoid that doesn't speak English really. But tbh I don't think a lack of powerful enemies were really a problem, my favorite episodes were the explorations and discoveries unrelated to the main story arc. Because any number of things could go wrong with a 4 man team exploring through the gate the show could, in theory at least, go on forever.
No.465
The thing I miss most from the movie (or it might have been in the first episode - can't remember) compared to the series is that sexy vortex cone behind an active gate.
>>152
All I could say is Humanity, fuck yeah!
But on a serious note, even with their accumulated tech, Earth could still be challenged by a new race. I mean even the Asgard had a hard time fighting the Replicators so stealing Earth's favorite cookie wouldn't be that hard.
For one I'd really like to see an Atlantis movie they promised long ago, or the continuation of Universe - the episodes were just getting really interesting and thankfully they dropped all that family drama by the end of the 2nd season
No.472
Why does Season 1 get such a bad rap?
I always appreciated how dark and tragic some of the episodes were like Daniel leaving Abydos and telling them to bury the gate, Kawalsky dying and Cassandra being sent underground to die on her own. There was a real sense of tragedy and hostility for the characters. It set the show apart from the likes of Star Trek. At least that's how I remember it.

I want to know that as well because I really liked the first season. I only got slightly bored at around the 6th season. Too much Goa'uld.
