What combat systems are the most popular?

How would I go about developing a firearm for one of them? Modeling the item itself is not an issue.

The only combat system you need to bother with is standard LL health and damage. Your gun only needs to shoot prims that instakill at a high rate of fire (this is done with multiple rez slaves) and have some kind of reload timeout.

speaking of which- are there reload animations? I imagine if the timeout is controlled by script your could play an animation, but I'm not really familiar with animating things. It would probably override any other animation too, wouldn't it? So you couldn't, say, walk and reload at the same time.

LLCS because meters are shit and bloated

to make your own gun, you find a gun that has been opensourced and rip the scripts out of it (medusa pulse rifle for example) and shove it in your own gun model, fiddle with the variables till it's noticeably different or even change the bullets and you're done.

I got the scripting down. All that's required now, really, is animations and my own model. Scripting was more intuitive than I imagined.

Your best bet is probably just standard LLCS.

MCE was pretty good while it was around as well but it was a massive moneyhog and went down because the lead content creator's house burnt down or something like that.

honestly i feel like the only "good" way of doing any gun oriented combat systems is to use raycast (basically hitscan) but sims shit themselves when too much raycasting is going on so why bother

To be quite honest, secondlife just does not work as an FPS platform whatsoever.

It can barely even handle being a walking simulator.

The only real use you're going to get out of your gun is decoration.

The best thing to do is collect a bunch of weapons /weapon scripts and go experiment with them. See what you like/ what looks the best and go from there. Also I would highly recommend uploading your own sounds.
