Exactly how extensive are the mods for Second Life?

Can you make a new game in it, an entire mmorpg, a new client?

 No.14926

Kinda, clients are a little limited to the "shared experience" though, breaking that makes the Lab angry, apparently.

as thinking of someone making in-game worlds and have camera over_rides such as if it is a 2d game - camera pans out and goes to side view.

the avi plays as the MC in the game.

playing super mario64? your avi replaces mario and there are teleports under the pictures to the levels.

but would it just be a cluster of people? set a time thingy like;

>please wait [time left] while [name] is playing

and if person leaves game, the next person joins.

 No.14928

That is basically the point of SL. You can theoretically code yourself an entire MMO within SL. You don't need to touch the client at all.

All possible via scripting, I think.

yeah but they are shit compared to actual games, might be better when SL2 comes around

You can script entire games in SL, but it will be a laggy mess because LL is hosting regions on dell laptops instead of real servers and still charging thousands of dollars for them. The entire engine is shit out of date and more patched than MJ's nose. You'd have more fun installing java in FreeBSD.

It's much more productive trying to re-implement SL's prominent features multiple clothing pieces, ability for users to add their own creations and defining what their things can do in a newer, functional engine that was made for videogames, eg. UE3.

scripter for going on seven years, ex-professional dev this is all basically true, you can do nearly anything you want within the scripting engine and if you have modeling/texturing/rigging/experience but some of it requires a shitload of patience (bordering on the masochistic) because the system is a 13 year old kludge of half patched broken shit on the backend. SL Developing is less about your scripting or modeling skill, and more about your ability to work around SL's numerous bugs and bullshit.
