I've been just now tinkering with it and sort of realized just how much you can do with this thing lewd related or otherwise. What are some stories you have or cool rlv stuff that is beyond just the standard sl bdsm, or even bdsm as long as its done in a cool way

>>5591Doommed Ship used to use RLV extensively. They had a HUD which would attach when you arrived in the sim allowing you to walk directly into teleporters instead of clicking on them, take control of your camera in certain areas or during scripted events, and it even had a health system so things in the environment could hurt you.
Like, if you can find your way to engineering, the lower deck is sealed off by a door with a window, so you can see there's stuff passed the door, but you can't reach it. But if you head up a couple of decks, there's an access door to the ventilation shafts blocked by a fan. If you walk into the fan it will splatter your avatar to chunky meatbits, but if you turn the fan off you can get past and use the ventilation ducts to get to the lower decks.
There was also poisonous water, ghosts that would attack you, and other hazards.
When the creators left SL and the build was moved to the mainland the HUD was removed. The hazards are still there, but without the HUD and RLV they don't do anything to you anymore.

Most of the RLV stuff seems to be built around sex but I really like the idea of using it for "gamey" stuff like mentioned above.
Plus, I really hate that the world and people can't interact directly without without express consent. RLV can be good for adding that. I mean the worst that could happen is that you get stuck somewhere and then you just free yourself by turning it off.

Does anyone on /SL/ use RLV normally, outside of games?
A lot of people have doll keys, robot 'power sources', bondage equipment, what have you, but most of them seem to be pretty generic humans.
By that I mean, 'likely over the age of 35, or have children'.

I use it for item equipping and unequipping. Lowers my script count, and keeps my HUDs conveniently accessible by having one HUD that can equip and remove my various other HUDs at will. Faster than going through my inventory each time.

I actually play around with RLV commands, pretty simple stuff really. Were I better at scripting as a whole I could probably do more than make minimap jammers though.

You can only make rlv hide your own minimap.
No you can't force it onto people and no you can't trick them into wearing one.

>no you can't trick them into wearing one
yes you can, I got Kanna to put it on then clicked it to activate/lock it. I took if off them because I'm not a dick but it proved what I was trying to see.
When you use a relay for lewd furniture they are made to ask you if it's okay to take control as a safety feature, this isn't a necessity with RLV as a whole though which is how hardcore mode works on most RLV relays for lewd stuff. So basically the minimap blocker doesn't ask to work, it just locks on and works.

Yeah sure you can trick people into wearing rlv stuff but I just preemptively said don't bother because you aren't going to get randoms to attach it.

That's because just attaching the item is more than enough authorization. And if it really bothers you turning off RLV to remove it is simple.
If someone doesn't know to be suspicious of scripts in attachments to begin with, much less while they have RLV on, they're getting what the deserve when someone tricks them. Particularly if they have RLV on without knowing what it does or that they can just turn it off and relog to get out of the situation.
That said if you want to do fun pranks to people with RLV, I suggest fucking with their windlight settings (and locking them out of changing them back natch)

They would also have to have RLV enabled on their viewer though, which is off by default.

I have a bunch of RLV toys I play around with some for role play. I had a HUD that would make you fat as you ate and skinny as you worked out for example (you had to pre make the shapes).
I played around with one that would cause withdraws symptoms and make you "addicted" to cum.
I have tried a few pregnancy HUDs that auto cycle your shapes if you get pregnant.
I have a Sassy's Bad Day skirt that lets people force you into having sex while you wear it.
I wear RLV glasses that make my vision blurred when removed
I use it to lock attachments like my hair and boobs.
Not sure if this is exactly what you mean.

No.12393

Sounds like fun to me. Yes, entirely freeform RP can be a blast, but it's also sometimes fun to have tools to springboard scenes and work with. You see this in drama shows all the time where people are given a setting or a prop and they have to work with it. It can be really beneficial and a useful addition.

Are there any sims that use RLV creatively? Any mazes that don't look like they are from 2006?
No.12408

Yeah. I like to test and play with these RLV toys for role play assist sort of items.
They are sort of like the dice from a DND game. They can add an element of randomness that personally can be fun in RP situations.
Its also why I like scripted genitals like Xcite , though with the talking off. You don't always know when you're going to orgasm in real life so it adds that bit or randomness element to an RP situation.
The Cum Addiction system was kind of a bust. It seemed to just increase your addiction level the more you "received" cum but it didn't seem to do much the more addicted you got. Specifically more frequent/intense withdrawal symptoms. Also the withdrawal always takes I think 24 hours to kick in, it should happen sooner the higher the level.

In general this is a problem with all creative RLV stuff. It doesn't work well with modern mesh stuff in general, at least when it comes to the functions of adding and subtracting attachments/layers that were central to things like stripping and transformation type traps.
RLV really needs to be modernized, though I'm not certain how that would actually be done. Probably would need a better system for communicating the nature of existing attachments to RLV scripts that is somehow backwards compatible, and something along the lines of a generalized API for communicating with mesh bodies.
No.12478
>>12477
I wonder if a script could be made for mesh bodies that adds or subtracts clothes. This may depend on if it's another object or if it's some sort of applier. I don't use a mesh body so I'm not sure how they work but I do have a script for the Lolas Tangos boobs that will automatically make them nude if you remove the upper body layers of clothing.
The real issue though would be getting it to be able to detect what type of avatar it's trapping, which may be impossible. Alpha layers make things messy, objects that you wouldn't want removed (mesh breasts, a mesh avatar, mesh hands/feet make it worse.
Like you said, you'd almost need some sort of universal API script where mesh outfits and objects could be labeled as "body part" so they remain unaffected and have some way to associate alpha layers with different clothes so the alpha could be removed and reapplied automatically.

It's been quite some years but I remember coming across some place that had rlv and at the time I had nothing set up for that, so I was looking through the instructions it gave me to set it up and one of them was to make a folder in the main RLV that was for body parts and other things you didn't want to get removed.
But I think that was for what ever sort of rlv system they were using in that place at the time, so no clue if that would work for all rlv unless it was part of the base coding rlv runs on
No.12483
>>12478

Yeah, it's not RLV itself that needs to be changed for this, just an RLV relay ingame needs to be scripted to do this, I believe.
No.12486

There are some functions already built in (no strip and hidden shared items), mostly implemented by stuff you do with your folder structure and the names of the items. It's really not fully sufficient at this point, not to mention that asking the end user to load their entire folder structure into their RLV shared folder isn't a big imposition right from the start.

Shortcuts work if an explicit path is specified, but for some items (for example, the doll keys I do, which record your worn outfit and then recall it later) they don't. Because if you do a getpath command it won't return shortcuts, so it's unable to record the outfit in that case.
