Joaquín Sabina es bastante popular, pero sus canciones pueden ser difíciles de comprender ya que usa numerosas aliteraciones, metáforas, comparaciones, etc… Sorprendentemente, una de sus canciones mas populares es una de las mas surrealistas que ha compuesto:

Joaquín Sabina is quite popular, but his songs can be hard to understand because he uses imagery, alliteration, metaphors, etc… Surprisingly enough, one of his most popular songs is one of the most surreal ones:

No creo que sea el maestro truvador que muchas personas piensan que es, pero tiene onda y eso me basta. Personalmente, creo que escribe canciones de amor más para complacer a las disqueteras que porque le inspiren.

I don't think he's a master poet, but he certainly has "swag". His love songs are pretty silly in my opinion and to me it seems like he mostly writes them because they tend to sell.

Here's another one:

All right, nignogs. Post any inquiries you have related to Spanish here.

Anything goes: syntax-checking, grammar, word meanings, translations of phrases, etc.

I've been checking back almost every day, but it seems no one has bothered to post in a long-ass time, Maybe it seems like this place is deserted, so I've taken the liberty to make this thread.

For those who don't get it, the pic is full of nonsensical Engrish puns

>¿Qué me recomienda?

Choosing 'do' or 'would' is up to you, although I feel 'do' is closer to the Spanish because would + verb tends to translate to condicional simple (¿Qué me recomendaría?).

>wouldn't recommendaría suffice?

This is another option. However, it resembles more of a hypothetical scenario.

You know, as in "¿Qué me recomendaría [en esa situación]?" What would you recommend [in that situation]?

otro tinar total hoy.

another mass shooting today. Es correcto?

 No.450

>>448

I'm adding the verb "Haber" in the beginning because having no verb is incorrect:

Hubo otro tiroteo hoy.

There was another mass shooting today

Or literally what you were trying to say(which is fine in a casual context):

Otro tiroteo hoy.

Another mass shooting today

A CNN article on the matter.

Two suspects die after mass shooting leaving 14 dead in San Bernardino, California (non-literal translations)

>>450

The verb "Haber" is one of those messy verbs that you'll just have to learn how to use through practice.

If you're learning German, in this context, it's like "es gibt" if that helps.

Translation of >>441 :

The only one is "este", but in practive you'll encounter many others such as:

"mira" "look"

"es que" (no real translation, you'll just have to recognize these things)

"veras" "you see"

"es decir" "that is to say"

They're just fillers. Usually, you'll hear them, then a short pause follows and then they continue.

I already listen to spanish music (mostly salsa because my family is puerto rican) funnily enough, they all know spanish as their first language except me and my brother, who know practically no spanish

But I've decided it would probably be beneficial to start watching some spanish TV.

Now I'm wondering whether or not it would be better to watch it with subtitles in english? subtitles in spanish? or no subtitles at all?

Also whats are some trustworthy books and websites with the /spanishclass/ seal of approval to check out?

Also whats the difference between ser and estar? and pero and sino?

Subs >>> Dubs
Los subs te permiten ver los malabares que hicieron los traductores para traducir el idioma original. Sirve bastante para averiguar cómo decir ciertas expresiones difíciles de traducir. Además, escuchar el audio original (siempre que puedas entenderlo) casi siempre es mejor dado que suele perderse información en las traducciones a veces.

Subs allow one to appreciate the great pains the localizers took to translate from the original language. It's also handy to find out how to say certain expressions that are hard to translate. Moreover, hearing the original language (provided you can understand it) is arguably better given that information is often lost in translation.

¡Es una píldora díficil de tragar! La píldora marrón fue fundada en 1999 (mil novecientos noventa y nueve) por el Sir Reginald Brownpill quién presenta y narra el video ligado.

Olviden las píldoras rojas y azules; las píldoras marrones son el futuro.

Video relacionado, ¡por favor dejen sus preguntas, comentarios y preocupaciones abajo sobre este nuevo y radical paradigma del pensamiento!f

THIS THREAD HAVE VERY OFFENSIVE WORDS, AND MOST OF THE WORDS I DESCRIBE AT NEXT ARE VERY RUDE
but this is an +18 site, so you can take it.

Hello there, anons.
I was thinking that we could contribute to the learning of the anons giving them a quick lesson on how to interpretate the "jerga" of your country. Like, the real words that the people on your area use, giving them an idea of how they are used in the casual conversation and the way their meaning change because of the context.

Mexifag here, this are some words that you have to know pretty well. If you don't, good luck trying to follow a casual conversation within two mexicans.

Cabrón:The real meaning is the male goat. Female is cabra and male is cabron. But slang use is far more common. Depending on countries it seems to have somehow different but similar meanings. A good definiton that would apply in almost all Spanish speaking countries would be asshole. In some places the word also means a person that is not with his partner. Example: "Se fue de cabron".He went to fuck around. In this way it always has the connotation that he is looking for an affair. It is oftenly used as "dude" too.
Its used too to describe a male who is a cheater or a womenizer.
It can be used too as an adjective, to tell something its hard, dificult or have big cualities: "Está cabrón", "Eres bien cabrón".

Pedo: this word has plenty of meanings.
First of all, it means "fart". Nothing much to say about that.
It can be used as and synonym of "situation": "Está cabrón el pedo."

MOTHER OF CHILENISMS! U MAD BRO?

Pro tip: tourist in Chile, if you are not staying for long, speak as formal as you can.

This is just a little collection of slangs:
https://suablog.wordpress.com/2009/10/29/chilean-spanish-101/

Chile is really creative when it comes to language. Also, siendo un largo y angosto trozo de tierra (long and narrow piece of land) if you travel from north to south, you'll see lots of different dialects, i mean, how to call a box-cutter ("tip-top" or "cortacarton") is something that get's informally discussed when different parts of the country get in contact. We have a reputation of being rude in some near countries, i guess a lot of it because internet speaking between chileans on general latin and hispanic chats, and some typical nationalism; but if you are foreign and you explain it, most of the times, chilean people is nice with you.

Oh, and there's a whole world of definitions and uses for the word "Weon", from meaning "friend", being an insult, refering to an object, and a lot more, but PLEASE don't use it in formal conversations or with people you don't know.

there's some i don't know, cause they are all weird mexican slang, the ones i do:

>te vuelvan a dar por culo

"may they fuck you in the ass" (it actually is "may the fuck you AGAIN in the ass", but its cause weird mexicanisms, not literally 'again')

>que te vayas a la mierda

"fuck off"

>pinche pendejo

"fucking douche"

>no mamés

"you are fucking with me!"/"you can't be serious"

>pinche perro

literally means "fucking dog", maybe 'dog' is slang for another thing, but i think its to be used when one is being disgusting

>veta a la verga

"fuck off"
