Spanish Questions

All right, nignogs. Post any inquiries you have related to Spanish here.

Anything goes: syntax-checking, grammar, word meanings, translations of phrases, etc.

I've been checking back almost every day, but it seems no one has bothered to post in a long-ass time, Maybe it seems like this place is deserted, so I've taken the liberty to make this thread.

For those who don't get it, the pic is full of nonsensical Engrish puns

Why are Brown "people" so filthy ?

Is there some sort of scientific reason for the stench ?

Is is because the majority of you are so small that your body is more asshole than it is flesh ?

I just want to know why are all of you so short, stupid and stinky ?

Also why do you rape and decapitate people so much ?

Regional vulgar terms, and words you should know pretty well

THIS THREAD HAVE VERY OFFENSIVE WORDS, AND MOST OF THE WORDS I DESCRIBE AT NEXT ARE VERY RUDE
but this is an +18 site, so you can take it.

Hello there, anons.
I was thinking that we could contribute to the learning of the anons giving them a quick lesson on how to interpretate the "jerga" of your country. Like, the real words that the people on your area use, giving them an idea of how they are used in the casual conversation and the way their meaning change because of the context.

Mexifag here, this are some words that you have to know pretty well. If you don't, good luck trying to follow a casual conversation within two mexicans.

Cabrón:The real meaning is the male goat. Female is cabra and male is cabron. But slang use is far more common. Depending on countries it seems to have somehow different but similar meanings. A good definiton that would apply in almost all Spanish speaking countries would be asshole. In some places the word also means a person that is not with his partner. Example: "Se fue de cabron".He went to fuck around. In this way it always has the connotation that he is looking for an affair. It is oftenly used as "dude" too.
Its used too to describe a male who is a cheater or a womenizer.
It can be used too as an adjective, to tell something its hard, dificult or have big cualities: "Está cabrón", "Eres bien cabrón".

Pedo: this word has plenty of meanings.
First of all, it means "fart". Nothing much to say about that.
It can be used as and synonym of "situation": "Está cabrón el pedo."
Its very common to use it with the meaning of "drunk": "El tipo se bebió toda una botella y se puso super pedo"
"The guy drank a whole bottle and he went super drunk"
Its used too to say something its dificult: "Es un pedo".

Chingar/chingón: I could give you a professorship about this word, but i'll try to resume it.
Chingar means "fuck". Literally.
It could be used in the same contexts. A very common frase is "Chinga tu madre", that means "go fuck your mom".
Chingón means something its great, big, or have great cualities. Example: "You beat that giant nigger who slaped your gf's ass. You're very chingón."

Verga: penis.
Vete a la verga: the same as "chinga tu madre".
Está bien verga: "it's great".
Está de la verga: "it's horrible".
Valer verga: don't having any value, or being fucked.

Puto: depending of the context, it can be "gay"; or Ser bien puto, that means womenizer.
It's an insult, so don't call gay people like that or they will beat the shit out of you.

Maricón: gay
Marica: gay
Joto: gay
Mariposón: gay
Rarito: gay
Del otro bando: gay
Muerde almohadas: pasive gay
Sopla nucas: active gay
Puñal: gay
Loca: gay
Mayate: gay
Gay: gay
(I don't have absolutly nothing against gay people, but we have a lot of terms to say "gay")

Madre: i'm not gonna give you all the fucking meanings. I would write a whole book of this word. Google it, because its extremly important if you wanna survive in Mexico.

Mamar: give oral sex, or be joking.

Culero: asshole.

Simón: yes.
Nel: no.
Morro: niño.
Chavo: young one.
Ruco: old one

Pendejo: fool

thing to long, hope you will help and post your regional-national words. Good luck learning!

Also: if you are a native spanish speaker, you can contribute so non-spanish speaking anons can undestand us better when they visit our countries.

Tox groupchat for learning español

I was wondering if the chico(a)s would use a group chat in Tox to help us learn español. Plus, since Rei is not over /spanish/ anymore, we could possibly connect both of these boards thru Tox. Is it a bad idea? I have a VPN not hosted in the Americas that could be used for this groupchat. Thoughts?

I will use a trip only for this subject.

Quiero hablar con el dueño de /spanishclass/

Hola,

Yo quiero hablar con el dueño de /spanishclass/. Yo soy el dueño de >>>/spanish/ y >>>/es/.

¿Quieres trabajar conjuntamente? Necesito practicar mi español, y necesito amigos y otras personas.

So, what do you say? /spanishclass/ seems like a good board, but >>>/spanish/ is arguably a better name. We could work together. Reply to this thread with a capcode and an email address, if you please, so I know that I am actually talking to the owner. Or, just email me, with some sort of verification that you are the owner.

Also, instead of wordfilters, if your users use Windows, perhaps they might practice using Alt key codes? I find them quite useful, personally. http://www.alt-codes.net/spanish_alt_codes/

Anyone know where I can find decent Spanish television shows with English subtitles.

I've tried using viki.com but they run out of English subtitles a few episodes in or it just stops working.
R: 13 / I: 2 / P: 2

Just a suggestion

Encourage people to translate their words to English putting spoilers over it for people who lurk here and doesn't understand spanish that much, including me. Google translate gives a broken translation.

It is a /spanishclass/ first and foremost.

I might be arrogant in my demands though

Muchas gracias.

Thank you very much

Hola /spanishclass/

Estoy enseñando a un amigo argentino el inglés. Comprende bastante bien, y ya habla un poquito. Además, él me ensaña español.

¿Qué mierda, no? Y pescé nada con esa.

Es la segunda vez cuándo usé español en realidad.

Pic un poco conexo.

¿Qué hacen ustedes para practicar el español (además de este tablón) en los chanes?

No me gusta mucho ir a Hispachan porque es una comunidad de niños y para los estupidos, pero es bueno para practicar. Los chanes pequeños en español son mejores en mi opinión. Por ejemple, Nueceschan es un chan bastante bueno pero no es muy activo. Además, el admin es un bro de mío.

¿Y ustedes?

Common Spanish mistakes

This is basically a list of things to avoid sounding like a fucktarded moron.

1. Don't use 'usted' unless you're addressing a teacher/professor/headmaster, doctor, someone much older than you that you don't know, your boss, etc. You get the idea.

2. Avoid speaking Spanish in English (e.g. "¿Tienes una luz?" (Got a light?). We would say "¿Tenés fuego?"). This goes double for figurative language and metaphors.

3. No one outside Spain uses 'vosotros'. No one outside Argentina and Uruguay uses 'vos'.

4. Sujeto tácito. Not knowing when to omit the subject from your sentences will almost instantly out you as a foreigner.

5. Avoid using literal translations by all means. You may use them as a tool to attempt to figure out the meaning of a sentence you're struggling with, but anything beyond that is bad.

For example, "Send us feedback" literally translates to "Envíanos retroalimentación", which is pure gibberish. "Envíanos tus comentarios" sounds better, but it's still a bit off.

6. Avoid cognates; you'll avoid embarrassing yourself.

7. Don't make up word meanings (or new words). If you write ">implicando" when you meant >implying, everyone will take the piss out of you.

8. Don't mix dialects, and, using the wrong dialect may ruin your interactions.
For example, Argies and Chileans hate each other. If you type "la wea fome po ql malo" into a game's Spanish chat room, you'll instantly draw the ire of any and all Argies. This is a good trolling tactic :^)

If you use "vos" and "wn ql" in the same sentence, your faggotry will give every Spanish speaker in the room a violent urge to rip your face.

Soy una cajera y cuando alguien me dice "ándale" al fin de la venta, digo… gracias? igualmente? buenos dias/tardes/noches? que?

generalmente digo o "que le vaya bien" o "que tenga buen dia" pero a veces gente me dicen "ándale" y en eso caso no sé qué debería decir. Además no sé exactamente qué significa "que le vaya bien". En ingles es comun decir "Have a good one!" o "Take it easy" al cajero/cliente, es similar?

¡Hola!
I have been studying Spanish (eng -> esp) for 7 years now and have made significant progress. However, I have always had trouble with simple memorization. I have grammar structure and verb conjugation under my thumb but what always stumps me is a simple noun or verb I simply forgot the meaning of. Are there any good ways to help this besides flashcards? Are there any good sites that focus not on sentence and verb structure but on the meaning of words (like an online flash card game or something).
Gracias.
