¡Hola!
I have been studying Spanish (eng -> esp) for 7 years now and have made significant progress. However, I have always had trouble with simple memorization. I have grammar structure and verb conjugation under my thumb but what always stumps me is a simple noun or verb I simply forgot the meaning of. Are there any good ways to help this besides flashcards? Are there any good sites that focus not on sentence and verb structure but on the meaning of words (like an online flash card game or something).
Gracias.

SpanishDict, one of the most reputable sites, has a nice list of flashcards based on category.

http://www.spanishdict.com/flashcards

I'd also recommend getting a physical stack of Spanish flash cards if you really mean business.

http://www.memrise.com/ are a more "fun" version of flashcards. you can pick your own images and design your own decks or use other peoples' and it measures your progress.

https://babadum.com/play/?lang=4&game=1 Ba Ba Dum is a really simplistic game that gives you multiple choice on vocabulary, in the upper left corner you can pick which "game" you are playing. i find it's nice to play when i am tired of actively looking things up to learn them

Never ever try to memorize a word by itself. You should be memorizing phrases. For example, in your native tongue assuming it is english, you never even question breaking down the use of the phrase, "what are you doing" or "i am tired"

it just kind of comes out as a complete phrase. therefore you should be memorizing phrases in spanish while simply being aware of grammar rather than using it to lead you. Not to mention, using phrases with your new vocabulary will help you remember how to use it in the future.

Whenever I memorize a word/phrase that is complicated to memorize or explain, I tend to picture the meaning in my head, think of related words, or think of an example of its use.

Examine the word's prefix/suffix, if any (e.g. almost any word ending in -cida means 'it kills').
Is it part of any word family? Mar(sea), maremoto(tsunami), marea(tide), mareado(dizzy) are all related to the sea (mareado = dizzy; the sea makes people dizzy).
Is the word used in a collocation? You know, like gaping hole, dead serious? Use that to your advantage.

Let's take the word 'confidencia' for example.
It reminds me of the latin words con (with) and fides (faith), i.e. you're entrusting a secret to someone with faith that they will keep it.
I picture a guy confessing to a priest in the church, which describes the word quite well.
It's also similar to the word 'confide' in English both in meaning and visually.
