I'm not really into anime, so I just watch either nostalgia stuff from my childhood, or occasionally interesting things like Haibane Renmei.

I acquired the basics at elementary school (to be, there is/are, have got, can, present, past simple), though some schools don't offer English until middle/high school. The rest I learned by myself through browsing random websites, forums, playing games, and watching movies (subs help too). I hardly ever spoke English anywhere outside classes.

To tell the truth, I'd personally avoid speaking in a foreign language (outside a learning environment) unless I was confident that what I'm going to say is correct and sounds natural, lest I make a retard out of myself in front of strangers.

there is/are -> hay
have -> tener
can -> poder (present)

Present is a tense. We've got the indicative present as an equivalent.

It's también, although the overall syntax of that sentence looks weird. I'd have used "También quería saber cómo se dice 'chart' en español". The subject is yo, but I omitted it.

Translating chart without context is a bit tough…
Gráfico, tabla, or diagrama may work.

I'll use some basic chart types to illustrate:
Pie chart -> gráfico de torta
Line chart -> gráfico de líneas (diagrama de líneas is also used)
Bar chart -> gráfico de barras
Times table (or chart) -> tabla de multiplicación
