Recently, I've been watching live-action stuff. The shows I've watched completely, recently, are: Bates Motel, Boardwalk Empire, Les Revenants, and Cuckoo.
First few eps of Bates Motel were good, but then it sorta went downhill. Every scene with Norman's brother was good, though. I actually wish it had just focused on him and his job. Some people might think that the mother over-acts, but I think she captured perfectly the neurotic single-mother.
Boardwalk Empire was great, but it had some boring parts; I felt that season 2 was the best, whereas seasons 3 and 4 felt a bit iffy (especially season 4. It's the worst season, imo).
Les Revenants (The Returned) was pretty good, but it got tiring towards the end.
Cuckoo is okay; there were only a couple parts that made me laugh out loud, but I did smile during most of the scenes; Andy Samberg was surprisingly enjoyable, and Greg Davies is always good fun. Season 2 was shit, though, because it didn't have Samberg in it.
As for movies, I watched 13: Game of Death, today. It's a Thai movie. It was pretty good. The main actor did a great job. A couple days ago, I watched Night Has Settled. Reminded me, somewhat, of my teen years; just that feeling of being with friends and shit. It was a nice movie.

Oh, I should also recommend House of Cards, Utopia, and Black Mirror to anyone who hasn't seen these shows.
3e85d6 No.16927
>>16926You can recommend a laundry list of movies because they're short and easy to watch. Even ones that are serialized in nature (Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Marvel's films) you can take care of in less than a week and you don't need more than 3 hours of free time any given day to knock out a good movie.
Serialized television shows drag on for seasons, and hours upon hours. Watching them one episode a week when they're running is one thing, but binging them is another thing entirely.
Serialized TV Shows have all of the following problems and then some:
>Writers often pad out the shows just for longevity purposes>They can go on for a LONG time, meaning binge watching one show can take days.>The format means that each episode presumes you've waited a week since the last episode OR that you're a newcomer to the series and haven't watch previous episodes, so redundancies in the show like exposition explaining things that have been gone over ten times already can become jarring and annoying>Up until very recently, television shows have had significantly lower budgets and thus have worse effects and worse actors.>Of the shows that have great actors and great writing, more often than not there are only a handful of actors (if even more than one) that "steal the show" and it's difficult to justify watching 120 hours of something just for one actor's superb performance when it's bogged down by the side stories of other characters you DON'T CARE ABOUT>Because more than one writer can write episodes for a show, characters can change dramatically and at a drop of a hat in ways that are jarring and confusing whereas one writer or a group of writers that are corroborating on every scene would write consistent and realistic characters 89c46b No.16928
>>16927True, but there are still a lot of good actors who are mainly in tv. And I remember Kevin Spacey saying that tv is going to surpass movies. Honestly, I actually think that most tv shows have far better pacing than most movies. At least, when it comes to drama. Drama movies tend to drag on for too long on certain shots. And, to me, at least, a recognisable actor becomes more than himself in a tv show. As in, when I watch a movie, most of the time I'll be thinking, "Oh, there's Sean Bean, there's Kevin Spacey", but when I'm watching a tv show, I'll think, "There's Ned Stark, there's Frank Underwood". I think that's because you get to spend a lot more time with that actor in a tv show, so you start seeing them more as the character.
I think that serial shows really are the future. They may not make as much bank as the new Star Wars, but they will be more interesting, imo.
