After this I suggest plunging feet first into the zone by playing the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise (See sticky >>153)

So I've got an idea to make this board feel a little more alive. I was thinking every week we could think of a challenge. Whether it be "hunt 2 bloodsuckers with a Makarov" or "run to the CPP and touch the wishgranter without firing your weapon" the first stalker to post AN OC WEBM or video of him completing the task gets some sort of prize.

Do you urbex? More importantly, do you go full S.T.A.L.K.E.R. mode and do it armed, wearing milsurp? What's your loadout? What are some of the places you've been to? Have any photos?
As for me, autumn is coming, we just got constitutional carry, and my Makarov has now shipped in. Between that and my SKS, I'm ready for mutants and skinwalkers. Nearby decommissioned military base is rumored to have tunnels underneath it, and I want to try and get in there, but I can't find a good entry point that's not visible to the general public.

So, I'm thinking about torrenting SoC, maybe the whole S.T.AL.K.E.R. series. After reading through this board, I'm wondering if I should play vanilla first or just go with mods to begin with.
I want to have as awesome and realistic an experience with it as possible for example, Misery mod in CoP, it adds things like hunting mechanics and more guns, right?, even extending to hunger/thirst/sleep mods if possible.
However, if you lot STRONGLY recommend playing vanilla the first time, I will heed the advice of more seasoned stalkers.

Making levels in STALKER?
So against my better judgement and lack of knowledge on the SDK and game devving in general, I gotta ask:
Why aren't there more custom levels in STALKER?
I suppose that the engine itself being slav-magic would explain why only Russians really make levels for STALKER, but I'm curious that exploration is one of STALKER's strong points and yet there are really only mods that have more of a gunplay/realism aesthetic going on. Not that there's anything wrong with those, but after playing AMK and such mods for SoC to death and seeing the same old levels over and over fatigues me and I know immediately what to expect.
So, a reason I love the STALKER lore that I think stuff like Survivarium misses out on is that the zone is a contained incident. It's not dire everywhere, just the zone, making it a new frontier rather than a huge disruption.
Does anyone feel the same way as me? I don't know why it makes such a big difference to me, either. Maybe it's somehow more optimistic in tone? like the zone being researched to improve the rest of the world. It's part of why artifacts are so valuable, being able to teach us how to improve batteries, etc.

I am currently playing L.U.R.K, it really does much for the atmosphere, but apart from that it isn't all that interesting. Still would rate it as a great immersion mod.
I have played AMK before, and passed from it only a year ago to OGSE which I love the fuck out of, but I am currently waiting for the new release of OGSE because I am fucking sick of turrets and rats that kill you in three bites. Anyone else play OGSE? Haven't noticed many people other than Russians play it.
Also, recommend me some mods for SoC after I am done with my LURK playtrough, is there anything like misery for SoC?

Was Destroying the C-Con the right thing to do?
So as most of you /stalker/s hopefully completed SoC already, I'm curious if Strelok destroying the C-Consciousness actually helped in any way.One could argue that it didn't and only made the Zone grow more unstable, seeing as how in CoP blowouts are commonplace.
But in SoC the C-Con could just use emissions whenever it suited them. Plus I would think blowouts would be canon in SoC had GSC not cut them from the game. And you could also say that the C-Con were just busy fumbling around to actually do anything other than constantly brainwash tons of Stalkers trying to reach the center of the Zone.

I have been playing zone of alienation lately, but there is something with that bugs me a lot more than it should. Reloading animation for the double barrel shotguns. If you have played that mod you propably have noticed that even if you fire both shell, you always reload only one. Is there any way to fix this? Using some other mods reloading animations perhaps?

The bandits at the carpark are withstanding 10 bullets in Master difficulty before they die, which makes it insanely hard to kill them. Even in headshot, they just wince for a bit and don't die.
What can I do? I'm always trying to aim for headshots, crouching and leaning.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Online
So, stalkers. Some of you have probably played this before. There is an MMO adaptation of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. out there. It's been around for a few years in multiple incarnations. The game is easy to summarize: It's absolute shit, but still manages to be fun.It's obviously based in "totally-not-the-Zone". It has all the classic features - artifacts, anomalies, mutants, fightan, big-ass maps.
For the rookies: It's an interesting mix between S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and classic MMO mechanics. You will have leveling and quests. When you die, you can try to get back up, or you can respawn at the closest campfire. Outside of settlements and the starting zones, PVP is fully open and allowed. There are clan mechanics, and you can capture bases. There's lots of exploration, all of it free-roam. The world is quite dangerous. Progression is done mostly through money. Artifacts are how you get money easily. Combat and movement can be stiff and wonky, and bullets are hitscan. ==There are 4 different ways to squat.==
For the veterans: Confused? If you played it before, it was likely the old version. The game was renamed to "sZone Online" after threats of lawsuits. Two years ago, however, one of the devs made off with the production database and the entire source code, sick of the buggy experience and stagnation of the codebase. He nset up his own servers, started adding features, and changed the name of his version back to "Stalker Online". A hunger bar appeared, new weapons and maps happened, and the game began to more closely resemble an actual S.T.A.L.K.E.R. experience. sZone is still around, but development is slow and it's still as terrible as ever. Stalker Online has stepped the game up. Graphics are a lot better (but slavs still don't understand what AA is), and there are a bunch of general improvements. There's a thirst bar now, which wasn't around when I last played. It's still not optimized all that well.

I've tried to get into STALKER, since I love the hell out of the premises of a spooky-hard game, but it feels like there's something wrong when I'm playing. I'm currently at the "Get information from the military base and bring it to the barkeep" sort've thing, and I keep getting stuck since despite my AK being aimed at people, it still takes nearly half a mag to bring them down. Is there some sort of damage bug I should be restarting for, or is it actually that ridiculous where it'll take a bunch of shots to drop a guy who can gut me in one?

Hey /stalkers, I have a problem.
A couple of months ago I got back into stalker and started playing with ZoA. This continued for a month or two until one day, I started lagging really badly. So, I saved and restarted stalker.
When I then launched stalker it displayed the splash screen before immediately crashing to desktop.
No crashlog is created, however I am able to access errorlog.log by pressing preview on the bug trap menu.
The errorlog is as follows

I spent hours trying to find a solution to this problem, but have been unsuccessful.
I have had a fresh install on the game, but to no avail.
Additionally, the Stack Trace section in the bugtrap window makes reference to kernel32.dll and ntdll.dll, are there corrupted?

How do I get binoculars in ZoA? I saw them at Sidorovich once, at the very beginning actually but I didn't buy them then and he doesn't seem to restock them. Do binoculars even work in ZoA with the whole magazine reloading system and shit?
