OP here, back with another story.

>playing DMM:AE

>the rookie who had just an anorak is now #1 in the ranking system, with 800k rubles, a stash with enough to form a faction, and a SKAT suit

>after countless hours of selling mutant parts and rare artifacts to the scientists, i manage to gather up the balls to get to the red forest

>before I even get there, a chimera attacks me

>manage to kill it without losing too much

>get to the starting area of the red forest

>i hear chimeras and bloodsuckers

>i ready myself and rush in

>all of a sudden i see probably 15+ chimeras and psuedogiants

>pic related is my reaction

>i instantly leap onto cover, as the mutants roar and rush towards me

>i think to myself how will i take out all these mutants

>and then i realise i have 8 grenades

>i use them all, and yet there are still some left

>manage to take them out, but used 200+ 556, 20 45 acp, and around six medkits

>sigh in relief as i check out the stash nearby me

>its a seva

>i get surprised, but think to myself to wait to grab the loot cause i'd be going into pripyat and exploring

>keep it in there and store the mutant parts in the same stash

>thinking i should grab the mutant parts and sell them in exchange for restocking, again

>seemingly randomly, a blowout happens

>rush to get out my PDA and see that there is no cover nearby in red forest

>i go to the military warehouses

>pull out my pda again

>no nearby cover in sight

>there has to be cover nearby, right? i think to myself

>sprint towards the warehouses as fast i can, but the attempt as futile as the effects begin to kick in

>stand completely still as i quickly die from the psi damage

It's a shame that it was removed in the later games, it was kind of silly to have a ranking system but it made the people you found seem more permanent, instead of just seeming like randomly generated one-off NPCs that you'll never see again. Plus, seeing your name shoot up in the rankings, and then skyrocket once you hit Pripyat and become a one man army, dropping squads of heavily armed and armored Monolith troops and snipers left and right, was great.
