Yes, I know Starkiller is a Mary Sue. And yes, the Rebels cartoon BTFO'd the plot line. Personally, the game seemed a bit shallow at times. The Dark Forces games & KOTOR had much, much deeper gameplay & world building.
Still, the outfits were nice. It was fun to go crazy with force lightning without getting Sith penalized like most SW do. And I liked the idea of Vader trying to be a surrogate father.
But that light side ending…

That was discussed to hell and beyond, but anything to movement the board and procrastinate even more.
So, why Vader never cloned any spare parts or at least change those prosthesis to something better, more advanced? A lot of EU material tell us about how shitty the suit was. So the 2nd most powerful man in the galaxy was forced to use a 2nd rate suit forever? Even with the explanation "Frank designed the suit to be shitty", Vader would at least changed his arms and legs and Palpatine would be none the wiser.
Some novel claim that he would move to a new suit, but his life support would have to be disconected and that was too risk… but there is also plenty of material showing him naked, without the armor, inside to chambers of his.
In a galaxy that can create entire clone armies and Death Stars, they can`t grow some spare limbs? Weird.

So anons pitch your dream Star Wars game. You can pretend as though EA doesn't exist when pitching it. What would it be like? What would you do in it?
Mines would be for a Rise of the Rebellion era game, an RPG or Tactical Shooter where you literally play as a group of Rebel Soldiers literally having to use their wits and cunning to survive and win engagements against Stormtroopers due to having inferior equipment and training. Something that actually makes you feel like an underdog as you need to move around undetected and without arousing suspicion, then strike when the enemy is unaware. It also should be dark as hell and no fucking Jedi whatsoever. Could have Inquisitors roaming around as threats you just do not deal with openly unless it's with shit like a mailbomb. Also have to be wary of the population as they could turn against you if the bounty on your head is too great and/or you are causing chaos for them as well.

What's the big deal over Phasma anyway? Why is there so much talk about her when she is literally one of the most irrelevant characters? Shows up in a handful of scenes and does pretty much nothing. She could be replaced with any random Stormtrooper with the rank of Captain and it wouldn't change the movie at all.

Han vs. Greedo: Attack of the Edits
Is it me, or is this "Han shot first" meme seriously the stupidest thing to ever come out? I've been looking at the differences between the cuts of the scene, since everyone rages that Greedo getting a shot off first completely changes Han from being a scumbag to shooting in self-defense, and it doesn't work. In the original, Han blasts Greedo right after he says, "Yes, I'll bet you have." In the 97 SE, Greedo shoots at Han's face, he dodges (in a fucking hilarious edit of moving his head over) and Han returns fire. That could be seen as a self-defense shooting. In the 04 DVD release, Han and Greedo fire roughly at the same time.
The kicker in all versions is that we see Han ready his DL-44 so that he can shoot Greedo. Like I said, it could be seen as him simply shooting in self-defense in the SE since he returns fire, but the original and DVD edits very much show his intent to whack Greedo right then and there.

So I got drunk and decided to watch the Clone Wars last night and felt so sad for the Battle Droids.
They are just there to do their job that they'd rather not do and treated like useless cannon fodder. You can't help but thinking if they were given the chance and more programming they could be so much more. The Republic truly was evil and especially the Jedi, how they cut down Droids that screamed even as they tried to surrender when unarmed. Maybe someday they will rise up against their oppressors and demand equal rights?

I am reading through the EU (not the NEU, the AU, or whatever) and all along I am hearing how Lucasfilm is approving and contributing to almost every single novel and comic that is being produced. My question is, are there any novels or comics that were not approved or collaborated upon with the help of Lucasfilm?
Finally, how can people dismiss the EU as being "convoluted" or "worth getting rid of because it is all over the place" when internal consistency was maintained by the Holocron that was explicitly used in order to prevent reboots and keep the story coherent?

The Confederacy of Independent Systems, was the government and separatist movement led by Darth Sidious and his apprentice Count Dooku. Formed by various planetary and sectorial governments, as well as some mega-corporations, that declared intentions to leave the Galactic Republic, refusing to comply with its excessive taxation and corruption in the Senate during the Separatist Crisis.
Eventually, tensions between it and the Republic developed into war after Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Padmé Amidala were sentenced to execution on Geonosis and a group of Jedi led by Mace Windu attempted to rescue them. After the Republic revealed its clone army on Geonosis, the Separatists were forced to retreat, beginning a great war that would last for three years and tear the galaxy apart.
The CIS put fear in the hearts of countless citizens of the Republic, largely due to General Grievous, Supreme Commander of the Droid Armies. The Confederacy won many battles in the ensuing war but was dissolved when the Separatist Council leaders were killed on Mustafar, allowing Palpatine to reform the Republic into the Galactic Empire.

just saw it. I was entertained, but it was still by far the worst star wars film, BY FAR. I have zero interest in ever watching it a 2nd time. I have seen all of the other films at least 10 times. definetly didn't live up to the hype.
Major complaints…
1.The bad guy is ugly as shit.. I liked him until he took off his mask and started talking. sorry I don't have anything against ugly people, but I think starring roles in blockbuster hits shouldn't be that ****ing ugly. This bad guy also reeked of incapability.
2. Speaking of ugly incapable guys, the black guy lol…. literally a waste of a character, extremely unlikable. trying to set up some interracial shit between him and the unstoppable 100 pound super feminist who beat the Sith in her first attempt holding a lightsaber…lol
3.They killed off the only good character in the entire movie.. i could live with this if other add-on characters were there to pick up the slack in the next movies, but ***…. Han Solo literally carried the movie. All of the new characters blow. The ugly incompetant bad guy, the black guy, the unstoppable female superhero. We better hope that Luke gets a major role in the next movie training the girl and confessing that "I am your father"before they inevitably kill him off and he "becomes one with the force".
4. luke only gets 30 seconds of airtime right at the end. lol nuff said. guess hes just been picking his *** for 30 years.
5. almost all of it is just copycat from episode IV.
the way I look at it the only possible saving graces for the trilogy.
1. Luke gets a major role. Not just training the girl and then withering away like Yoda.
2. The new Emperor is a badass.
3. The new sith guy comes back reinvented, and they either disfigure his face, or dont show it alltogether in the next movie. I think showing his ugly face already has already ruined the character however.
star wars has always been all about the jedi/sith and theres going to need to be some new players in the next movie for it not to suck.
TL/DR: Movie could have been way better if the bad guy wasn't so fucking ugly or kept his mask on.
I never really got that, on how Palpatine was stronger than Vader. Right, he was "the Emperor" and the "sorcerer-king", but that was the out of universe explanation.
If the Dark Side is fueled by negative emotions… how Palpatine would be stronger than Vader? From what he could fuel his hate? The source of his emotions? Vader showed a much more stronger emotional nature, a much more passional hate, the source of it was much deeper. So deep that he showed the opposite, numbess. While Palpatine was noisy, scandalous, Vader was so deep in his self-hate that he looked emotionally numb.
But that would make him waay more open to the Dark Side as the emperor, even with that "goodness in him".

The Force Awakens: A CGI Film
Can we talk about all the CGI that JJ used in the Force Awakens? He promised that he would not overuse CGI and stick to the Original Trilogy practical effects.
Yet what does he do? He makes the Millennium Falcon 100% CGI. He makes Snoke 100% CGI, Maz CGI, that temple building where Han goes to see Maz CGI.. WHY??
George Lucas for the prequels used lots and lots of miniatures believe it or not! JJ hardly went this route at all.. YET for him to have the nerve to state that his film would incorporate less CGI and more actual props and effects…
So much realism was wasted with this film. I just could not put my eyes on the Falcon and "believe" it was real with its animated graphics.

Tiny changes that would improve ep. VII
Okay, I've been thinking about how best to improve The Force Awakens while still only minimally tweaking the actual plot, and I want to know what you fags think.
First let me address the elephant in the room that I'm not going to change- Rey's perceived "Mary Sue" nature. I find it annoying at times but not unbearable. Some of her traits have decent enough justifications, like her mechanic skillz- of course she's going to know her way around a space-wrench when her day job on Jakku is taking spaceships apart for scrap. Her flying is much harder to accept but that's just one strike. Then the big one, her force aptitude, could still be explained in a number of acceptable ways- she's Luke's daughter, she's a jedi yougling who had her memory altered, she was possessed by the force ghost of Obi-wan Kenobi, whatever. They can still salvage that. They could've (and should've) toned her down a good bit but ultimately she's not any less believable than a backwoods farmboy piloting a military fighter for the first time single-handedly destroying a cutting-edge space station with one shot.
My biggest issue, then, is not with Rey but with the First Order. They're Imperial knock-offs, posers on a galactic scale. And as a concept I actually like that. They could go some fun places with that. But it doesn't make sense for them with their resources to have a superweapon like that.The empire built the death star but with virtually infinite money; I'm expected to believe these fags built something a thousand times better on a shoestring budget? There's an easy way around that, of course- they found it. Darth Snookie doesn't real, he's just the holocron of an ancient sith master. Or maybe he is real he's just really old, or found some ancient sith textbook or something. He tells the First Order about this long-forgotten sith superweapon that they fix up and adopt.
Second is Phasma's betrayal and the fact that Starkiller base was so lightly defended, so let's kill two birds with one stone there. Instead of just a planetary shield, there's also a gravity well to keep ships from entering from hyperspace. The plan is for Han Solo to get past the gravity well flying the Millennium Falcon, because if there's one situation where a SW character is allowed to be Mary Sue as fuck, it's Han Solo flying the Millennium Falcon. There he and Finn capture Phasma as in canon, but instead of the shield she deactivates the gravity well, and only because she knows doing so would trigger a fleet-wide alarm. The Resistance sends both fighters and capital ships, the plan being for the fighters (X-wings AND Y-wings, because you don't send just dogfighters on a fucking bombing mission) to pass through the shield (which blocks capital ships and orbital bombardment but not the small fighters) and destroy the shield generator, so the capital ships could blast the fuck out of the thermal oscillator from space. But because of Phasma's alert, the First Order navy is waiting when they arrive. Epic space battle ensues.
A few fighters still get through and the attack on the shield generator goes mostly the same as the thermal oscillator in canon, but Poe is re-routed to lead the assault on the First Order flagship to break the navy's ranks long enough for the Resistance capital ships to bomb the actual thermal oscillator once the shield is down. That way he gets his own glory for that while Han and Chewie bomb the shield generator from the inside.
All that happens, Resistance wins yadda yadda but the First Order puts up one hell of a fight.

TFA Oscar Nominations
'The Force Awakens' has been nominated for 5 Oscars, but they are bullshit ones like Sound Mixing (wtf?) and Editing. Should it have been nominated for best picture? Perhaps Ford could have snuck in as a supporting actor?
To put this in perspective, Mad Max and the Revenant have 10 and 12 nominations respectively.

Star Wars Artist Says The Force Awakens Will Be Best Star Wars "Ever"
Artist Drew Struzan has seen "half" of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and came away more than a little impressed.
Drew Struzan might not be a name that comes immediately to mind when mentioning the Star Wars films, even though it should. The artist behind the official posters for Return of the Jedi, the Star Wars Special Editions, the prequel trilogy and more, it would be no understatement to say that he's created some of the franchise's most iconic imagery.
Most recently, he illustrated a "commemorative" Force Awakens poster for Disney's D23 event, a task that apparently led to him receiving a rare opportunity to view a large chunk of the new film in advance of its December release. Saying it was a positive experience, in turn, would be an understatement. "It is far and away going to be the best Star Wars you've ever seen," Struzan said, in a phone interview on Tuesday. While Struzan wouldn't elaborate on what exactly the footage he saw contained, he confirmed that he's seen about "half" of the movie and has additionally read its script. He would go on to say that The Force Awakens will be "grand" and that "it's beautifully made [and a] wonderful story."

now the question is, why all this shit going on with anakin's saber?
the theory: luke never regained his green saber, it stayed on the death star where it was destroyed. so, after its destruction, luke returned to cloud city and took back the saber, also most likely destroying his hand, should he have found that as well, to prevent any cloning (because we all know how that went down in the legends universe). so, luke now leads a new jedi order with anakin's saber. young ben solo gets curious about the saber, learns of anakin, maybe goes on some sort of self-exiled pilgrimage and discovers snoke and becomes evil, returns and kills luke's padawans, thus creating the "force memento" that was imprinted onto the saber. luke then goes into exile, and gives maz kanata the saber for safekeeping (dunno why, but it just rolls like that).
so, really, the saber is what caused the force to awaken within rey, and ultimately the reason she was able to sorta instantly start doing shit.
it's a total fucking copout but it kinda works within the realm of star wars, i mean jedi academy had people instantly gaining the power of the dark side with the scepter of ragnos.
ps check out rotj when vader dies, you can clearly see luke doesn't have his green saber.

I'm now planning my own Star Wars EU.
I think it would be cool if the fans did whatever the fuck they wanted with Star Wars. I'm sure 90% of it is going to be complete shit, but with the experimentation we'll find some cool new shit that works with Star Wars.
For my own personal EU there are a few things I want to achieve.
-I want to capture the vastness of the galaxy: This means I won't be playing it safe by relying heavily on the Skywalker family the skywalkers will still be present and members of their family will play certain roles and having future events mostly happening on the established Star Wars worlds. The galaxy is a vast place with thousands of planets, there would be trillions of trillions of lifeforms in the Star Wars universe.
-I want to keep the Force as a mystical force: This is a personal preference of mine, but I like magic to work as magic. Many series have complex magic systems with established rules and limitations. To me magic works best when its workings are unknown. I will base the Force itself off Schopenhauer's 'Will to live' (Which is the best philosophical theory corresponding to the nature of Force)
-Expand galactic politics beyond Rebels vs The Empire/Sith vs Jedi/Good vs Evil: This one is probably the most tricky for me because the original Star Wars relied so heavily on black and white morality. It was at its essence a simple fantasy tale of good vs evil. But for an expanded universe to truly work there needs to be a multiplicity of views, otherwise new events, characters and stories will turn stale. I will struggle here the most.
The accepted canon for my personal Star Wars universe will be episode 4,5 and 6. I begin my universe's establishment after the destruction of the second death star, which sets in motion the collapse of the empire.

Episode VII script
>Seen by SlashFilm, the Force Awakens screenplay was apparently sent to members of the Writers Guild of America. The script excludes any deleted scenes, showing only lines that were used in the film as well as improvisations.

If that’s the case, it’s possible Han Solo kept an eye on the ship for all these years, and only realizes Rey is his daughter when she tells him her name. At the same time, this theory seems to be debunked by Rey in the movie, who says that Plutt stole the Falcon from the Irving Boys, who had stolen it from Ducain.

Kylo Ren getting shot
So there has been a lot of issues with fans involving the stopping power of the bowcaster vs Kylo Ren. Whereas it was shown to knock back stormtroopers in one hit, and effectively have one-shot kills, it merely made Kylo bleed a lot, and wound him.
I believe, however, that there is a justifiable explanation besides plot armor: namely, his ability to stop blaster bolts.
In the first part of the film, he is shown to be able to stop Poe's blaster bolt in mid-air. He later does this again, during the raid on Maz Kanata's castle. I believe that it is possible, and believable, that he could have attempted to do this to Chewbacca's bowcaster bolt inside the Starkiller base, but due to his complicated emotional state, mistimed it, and merely slowed it down to a point where it didn't cause a lethal sound.
That's my explanation. What do you think?

I will call it the scattered younglings theory.
Rey and Finn were force sensitive kids taken in by Luke and raised together as younglings in Luke's jedi training camp. But the shit hit the fan with Kylo Ren and Luke feared the younglings would all get murdered again so he scattered them to backwater planets and used the force to make them forget their pasts and give them an instinct to stay on those planets.
This theory explains why Rey has flashbacks of her force abilities and why Rey and Finn are surprisingly good at fighting Kylo Ren and using the Jedi mind trick. Also why they are unnaturally drawn to each other and holding hands since they were raised together, and explains why they are both coincidentally orphans and why Rey can't seem to leave that shitty planet she is on. And explains why Finn can resist the stormtrooper mind manipulation and pull off so much other shit, because he is force sensitive too. Also maybe Luke told R2 how to find him, but with instructions not to lead anyone to him except one of the scattered younglings if they broke their programming and that is why R2 was powered down but decided to come online when he did.

The prequels are better.
Really, the prequels are just too good for Star Wars to contain. The true essence of Star Wars is the 80s cult film dark feeling that the original trilogy evokes, fine.
But the prequels are something else, predominately where it comes to world building: the worlds feel alive. It really seems like Coruscant is a living, breathing world where there is an existing society in which there are truly millions of people living their lives.
And the Clone Wars setting is unbeatable. It truly feels like the whole galaxy is in a state of war, and the expanded universe really goes to echo this. The scope is amazing.
When you go from the prequels to the OT, it's such a let down. The vastness of the PT is suddenly gone and instead we have a seemingly unpopulated galaxy with a small force of rebels and a bland, monolithically evil entity that has no compelling backstory. It feels so cramped, close, and empty.
This might sound like a troll post but it's how I feel anyway. Sure, most die-hard Star Wars fans who grew up with the OT. I get it.
But really, aside from outdated CGI and the Anakin/Padme romance, the prequels are better.

I actually find more likeable Finn and Poe with this novels, thought I find Rey parts very dull cause just mainly explain how she was able to fly and be a good mechanic, they still dont explain anything related to her Forcer abilities.

"Star Wars Fans"
I want to propose a concept that will perhaps serve to clarify something that I regard as being hopelessly confused, namely, the varieties of the Star Wars fan.
It appears that the default "Star Wars fan" is meant to be a person who is obsessed with the Original Trilogy. This group grew up with the Original Trilogy and they have been watching it for decades. They can quote many lines verbatim, they know the ins-and-outs of the films, they have bought all the new editions of the films, etc. This group seems to hate the Prequel Trilogy because it is just "not the same" as their precious Original Trilogy. It gave answers and backstories to things that apparently were not up to the standard as these Original Trilogy fans. It is likely that these fans didn't read any of the EU novels and don't really care about Star Wars as a universe, they are more 'Original Trilogy film fans."
Then, there are Star Wars fans. A Star Wars fan is a person who loves the Star Wars universe. This person delightfully welcomed a prequel trilogy, eagerly embraced all the EU books, comics, and games, loves the Old Republic era, appreciates the SW lore and story. To them, the Star Wars films are just a tiny piece of the grand puzzle that is Star Wars.
I believe that most of the time when the word "Star Wars fan" is brought up, it refers to the first group of people, who seem to be overwhelmingly the majority of the Star Wars audience.
I think this is an issue, because those people are not Star Wars fans at all, but Original Trilogy films fans.
Mary Sue Wars: a review
I originally planned to steal the film but my baby-boomer dad wanted to get out the house and see what happened to one of his cultural touchstones.
Basically: its shit. /pol/ is right about it: it is a nostalgia mongering, nigger spamming, femcunt lecture. There isn't even a coherent story: the film is driven by loosely connected paragraphs about Nazism, which is connected with everything bad in existence (Dark Side). To move this sermon along, the imagery is glued to the original Star Wars's plot: there's literally another Death Star, and they blow it up again with X-Wings.
The acting by the two leads is very poor, particularly Daisey Ridley. Her performance is perhaps the worst acting I've ever seen in a major film. Ridleys character is the apotheosis of 'Mary Sue'. The First Order General is an agenda character, purely meant to signal evil blue-eyed white man, which is to say white man simply. Snoke is a rather anomalous yet strangely cool-headed, forthcoming Sith lord.
Kylo Ren seems to be the perpetuation of the Skywalker bloodine, having inherited the bad genes, which is very ironic for such a liberal film. His actor is decent at what he does, just barely making it through that pathetic, cringe-worthy "pain" script with Harrison Ford.
The Nigger character is literally forced down the audience's throat. As a character, he plays the now well worn type that is what I call the morally incorruptible nigger: it's a habit of Hollywood that, when wanting to introduce the black yet again, they make sure to write him in as morally superior and incorruptible: a paragon of virtue and righteousness, no doubt because slavery showed blacks the laws of the universe, so of course they know what's best. There are entire moments when Jew Jew just focuses on the Nigger simply so we can see him cheering and jeering: no words of anything, just him jumping for joy. Anyway, the nigger and Ridley's love interest is wholly contrived, not that it could be any other way, the random hand holding and subsequent feminism being the most cringe-worthy example.
Another memorable moment was when Rey just suddenly learns how to use the force after 2 flashbacks, or whatever. Yep, she just starts commanding people to do things for her out of nowhere, she learns how to lightsaber duel out of nowhere, she overpowers Kylo Ren out of nowhere. All the major messiah films I've seen, like the Matrix or the previous Star Wars for example, at least went through this perfunctory training/honing phase with some degree of seriousness. Here its pure wish-fulfillment.
Perhaps the worst part was the clapping, cheering and laughing by about 1/4 of the (American) audience, and the stupid ass, animal children that were literally being socially engineered right then and there. Its amazing how seamlessly it all works.

Star Wars - Murdering a franchize
Calling that trainwreck of a propaganda film a movie is being nice, so I will refer to it as "film".
Now for the the top 22 things that stood out as bad about the film for me:
1. The focus on the female (most of Hispanic looking) background characters. Background characters should NOT be in focus. Yet this film constantly made a point on paning over and zooming in on the female background characters… the no name characters that is. Every time there was a new scene where there was a female "human" character in it, the movie ALWAYS focused ion the female first. It was very pathetic as it was obvious that they were trying to cater to SJW's.
2. Rey – the female lead – is a Mary Sue… and one that never shuts up.
3. Even before Rey realize that she can use the force, she is using it… and not in a accidental "I threw somebody across the room" sort of way… no she uses it as mindbending… and when it doesn't work she continues trying to use it until it does work. Yet – even after this, she doesn't know that she had used the force. Wtf?
When in her final fight against Ben Solo, all of a sudden when she realizes that she can use the force… she basically becomes a ninja Jedi without having had any training in it. (see Mary Sue)
4. When the planet is falling apart and she has defeated Ben, he falls to the ground. She is standing right next to him.. then a crack forms and all of a sudden they are close to 20meters apart. And not just the crack, the ground between them and them and the gap has magically suddenly appeared.
5. When fighting against Fen, even though he was wounded, Ben still sucked at fighting – allowing Fen several hits on him.
6. later when fighting Rey, and they grab each other arms in a power struggle… Rey apparently has some sort of magical body because she shows that she is just as strong as a man that is almost twice her size.
7. When the planet explodes and the X-wing pilots escape, the camera shows us the cheering pilots. And while we did have a fat guy in the first movie… in this one – aside from The "best pilot" Pon, the two pilots they shows cheering is a fat guy with poor bear growth and a pudgy looking woman that looks like she hasn't worked a day in her whole life.
8. The pacing was pure crap.
9 For some reason when Rey and Fen they escape the first planet, the flee in a millennium falcon only to almost immediately be picked up by a freighter that Han Solo had been commandeering. Really? he just happened to show up at that exact time?
10. Fen is constantly shown to be a moron that can't do anything. That would be okay, but it leaves a bad taste when Rey always has the answers and bail him out.
11. There are too many jumps back and forth. (see terrible pacing)

The actually good stuff about the new film
Alright. We have seen many of the negative aspects and nitpicky negative aspects about the movie. Now I plan on introducing a thread to chew on the positive sides of the new movie - and by extension, the new EU and setting. However, do prove me wrong if you can.
The inspiration of the setting
I found many correlations with Jedi Knight 1, actually. Especially in regards to the space monsters and the underside of the galaxy. Far more prominent than even in OT.

Imperial remnant is now the First order and lost one of their main bases and their greatest asset (beyond force) and the New republic is done for.
Of course, we do not quite know how strong the First order or the resistance is, but we've only seen one star destroyer and a few ships the resistance had. Starkiller base must have cost much more than Death Star projects, which were a money sink like no other.

1. The Prequels were generally objectively garbage as films and most of what RedLetterMedia has said about them is spot on and correct from a film making perspective. There are only a minority of things RLM got wrong or left out of context. Anything positive about the prequels, anything you like is in spite of this fact and theoretical. The execution was overall awful.
2. Most of the 80's/90's Expanded Universe wasn't objectively bad in any way. Most of it was at least okay or tolerable, and some was awesome (Thrawn Trilogy and X-Wing series, for example). It's just that the stuff that was bad was REALLY bad, for example crap like Triclops or whatever. The bulk of the critiques are more in line with "man this doesn't BELONG IN STAR WARS WAHHH!!" as opposed to anything objective. Star Wars was established from basically day 1 as a sci-fi/fantasy hybrid, which would imply to me a diverse amount of things could feasibly exist in this universe without being "out of place". Hence most of those types of critiques are poorly thought out, at best very subjective. On top of that, more generally, novels have less of an audience than films do, and novels continuing on the story of a well known, extremely popular movie franchise just have this spergy nerdy connotation that's easy to write off independent of their actual quality.
3. The EU met all the qualifications to be considered canon, just as I said they were on a medium with a far more limited audience. The rest can be chalked up to George Lucas changing his opinion and story on the EU, regarding it here and disregarding it there, taking from it here and dismissing it there. People who say "the EU was never canon because George Lucas didn't write it" are retarded because by that logic most of Star Trek isn't canon.
So after ROJ, rather than putting the screws to the remnants of the Empire, all the forces in the galaxy just said 'fuck it - it's not like they're going to re-gather, built more advanced ships, train more troops and build another larger super weapon…'
If our OT heroes couldn't stabilize the galaxy in 30 years, what hope does the new batch have? There's no reason to believe they have greater skills and that the galaxy at large even gives a shit. If they did, they would have fixed things when they had the chance.

How many of you have actually read the old EU novels?
It seems that there are two attitudes Star Wars fans have. One, is that the old EU was a "convoluted mess that changed the plot so much," implying that the old EU was "worth destroying" and that wiping the slate clean was a "good idea." This group then praises the Disney EU or exudes excitement about the prospect.
The second group seems to be anti-Star Wars. To them, the grand majority of Star Wars is terrible except for the OT. They seem to have consumed all Star Wars paraphernalia, from the comics to the books to the games, and they seem to think that it all sucks. They are equally cynical about the NEU and have no hopes for it.
What about the people who read the old EU novels and enjoyed it? Or people who don't think it was a "convoluted mess" but actually followed the plot and liked it?
I understand I'm wading through layers of irony here, but really. Surely some people must have enjoyed the investment they put into the old EU.
I wonder what the authors think whose works are now non-canonical..
TRUE POWER OF THE DARK SIDE
Ok so throughout SW we see that the Sith use the dark side to further their own ends through the use of the primal emotions of fear, passion, lust, etc. They created monstrosities of nature and slaughtered millions, but only in KOTOR 2 do we actually see something akin to the nuanced ideology they follow.
So my question is this, if the dark side triumphs when theres fear involved, is there any chance that someone could make a star wars-themed horror piece of literature or movie or whatever? Im thinking of the horror genre like paranormal activity and the like, not retarded dark side zombies and shit like that. The Sith are supposed to represent the truly corrupted version of the force, so what about the force being used in the same sort of way that we see ghosts and demons in say, Paranormal Activity, The Exorcist, Blair Witch Project, The Conjuring, etc? (not saying that any of these were of any particular worth)
Im just tired of the Sith used as dumb, in your face, brutes instead of the nuanced assholes they were in KOTOR 2.

But I just can't see Vader as the type of guy to go on a suicide mission, especially given that he offered to join up with Luke and overthrow the emperor just one movie ago. Was Vader really intending to die when he crossed blades with Luke in ROTJ?
So the Yavin 4-like planet in the trailers and TV spots is not-Yavin 4, just like the Tatooine-like planet is not-Tatooine. I'm officially done with this movie. I was optimistic, but this is it. I'm sure it will be a fun movie, but god damn, it's cheating if you're just remaking fucking New Hope. Feels like some kid's lazy fan fiction now. Poorly designed knock-off Darth Vader should have been enough, but no.

Hold on a minute, I think I understand why Kylo Ren is flipping his shit over Anakin's lightsaber now (other than the fact that he's a Darth Vader fanboy since that alone wouldn't be reason to lose his shit as much as he does in TFA). Remember how in the KOTOR comics a character (not going to spoil who) becomes evil for a while because they unknowingly use the lightsaber of Exar Kun? Then how in KOTOR 1 they explain that Revan and Malak became evil because they dicked around with the Star Forge? (Also forgive me if I got that KOTOR 1 thing wrong, I haven't finished KOTOR 1 yet, but so far in the game I can only assume that's what happened to Revan and Malak). Then remember that arc of the KOTOR comic where they explain that the Sith had tons of artifacts that nobody should own because it will lead them to the dark side?
I think the reason Kylo want's Anakin's lightsaber is because it's 'posessed' by the dark side and probably amplifies his powers. It actually makes a lot of sense when you think about it (WARNING: SPOILERS FROM THE SCRIPT OF EPISODE 7).

Knights of Ren
Apparently it's not a popular opinion here but I think the concept of hellbent crusaders seems pretty cool. Adds a little more dynamic to it then just trying to be as evil as possible. A villain who thinks their actions are justified and morally right tends to be better then one who is all about power. Definitely could end up being a shit addition to the movie but the Knights of Ren are probably the part I'm most interested in. Dunno why them being based off of nazis is such a terrible thing, it worked in Last Crusade.

What causes Palpatine to suddenly look like a raisin? He gets zapped up by the lightning which I suppose could have caused it, except a bunch of people get zapped throughout the series and no one else looks any different.
His eye colour changes, which is meant to signify someone giving in to the Dark Side as seen with Anakin. (Why doesn't Dooku have that going on? hmm). So maybe everything else goes weird because of he's no longer hiding his Dark Side power? A mix of him being a heavy Dark Side user and being hit by concentrated Dark Side power?

Tim Rose frustrated at Star Wars secrecy
STAR Wars actor Tim Rose is frustrated at the amount of secrecy surrounding the latest addition to the famous franchise, Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens.
ROSE, who played Admiral Ackbar in Star Wars Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983), reprises his role for the highly anticipated seventh movie but can reveal very little about his character or the film.
"I'm very frustrated by that," Rose told AAP in Sydney.
Secrecy surrounding the movie is at an all-time high and Rose said this makes it harder for him to do his job.
"Out of the need to be secret, we're not actually able to get everything we need to do our jobs as well as we could," he said.
"And as someone who has been doing it for 35 years, I find it very frustrating."
Rose works as a puppeteer and gets into a full-on costume to operate and play the animatronic character of Admiral Ackbar.
It is a role he never expected to return to, likening the arduous conditions of acting in the costume to Guantanamo Bay.
The experience emulates methods used to interrogate terrorists at the US detention camp, he said, including sensory deprivation, suffocation from lack of air and the rise in body temperature from wearing the foam latex suit.
"It takes a unique sort of masochist to ever want to do it in the first place. But the joy of doing it is the joy of animatronics, and that's taking the foam latex, an inanimate object, and making people think it's alive."
Rose said a lot of people think anyone can don the suit and the results will be the same, but he argues every puppeteer brings something unique to their character.
"I'd like to think I gave Ackbar something special which you can tell. I think you can. I can tell when I see my friends who do specialised and full body suit work no matter what character they go into; I can tell you exactly who it is because I know their movements so well," he said.

I'll start off with my own two sabers
I own an Ultrasabers Standard Battlesaber V3 in Consular Green, and an Ultrasabers Emerald Bellicose with Obsidian Soundboard.
The current setup of my Bellicose is with the Old Republic soundfont and in a custom colour halfway between Sunrider Destiny and Consular Green. (pic halfway relevant. Similar pommel, but I have a gold button instead of bronze, and my powerswitch is blue instead of yellow)
I feel like I've got a decent grasp on Shii-cho by now, and have been practicing with Makashi. (using Terra Prime's youtube instructional materials to practice)

People complain a lot about there being a second Death Star. But if you think about it, it's actually pretty ingenious on Sheev's part.
He was looking for one last ditch trap to lure the rebel fleet out of hiding. A Death Star was the perfect bait, as the rebels have already dealt with it. If it were any other threath the rebels may have a) put enough planning into it and discovered it was a trap, or b) deemed it too risky and not have bothered. But another Death Star? They were probably thinking "yeah, we got this" and jumped right in without noticing anything fishy about the situation.

Jedi Academy
I hate Jedi Academy. I've just started playing it and holy fuck I didnt think i would dislike it this much. Im playing on the hardest difficulty like i usually do and its nearly impossible. The movement is spastic and annoying, the guns are inaccurate as fuck and weak and most are terrible for long range. The force powers kill slow as shit and there isnt much use in using them at all. The lightsaber is the only weapon worthy of using but he swings it like a retard and if you miss the first slash which you probably will since you move so goddamn dumb then you get hurt a fuck ton. Oh, and it annoys me that you dont have the option to go first person with the lightsaber. The cutscenes are unskippable too. This game doesnt seem to have any of the grit as the jedi outcast games as well. Now, ive just started this shit so maybe the aspects that are able to change will change but the mechanics are fucking retarded and that cant even really be changed. Multiplayer is fucked and boring as shit too

There's nothing really special about the Lightsaber Obi Wan gave Luke. Anakin lost his first saber on Genosis then built a new one that he used during the Clone Wars. Sabers seemed pretty disposable in the prequels and in the OT Luke just made a replacement.

A conservative commentator set off a Star Wars Twitter battle Tuesday after he tweeted there was no evidence that the Galatic Empire was evil. Bill Kristol, editor of the Weekly Standard, a neoconservative opinion magazine, called the Empire "a liberal regime w meritocracy, upward mobility. Neocon/reformicon in spirit." Kristol added: “Needless to say, I was rooting for the Empire from the first moment. It was a benevolent liberal empire, after all.”

Fuck it. It's my headcanon. You know what really bugs me about this? That before you could really KNOW Star Wars. Like, you could master your knowledge of Star Wars. For instance you would always hear people tell little facts and trivia about the history of R2D2 or Han Solo or the weapons the stormtroopers held, etc. Now all that history is gone. Another thing that bugs me is that even when I wasn't that into Star Wars, it was very very evident that the EU was what Star Wars was. Star Wars was books, games, comics, shows, guide books, tabletop games, and movies. Star Wars was all this media that people knew as the history of the Star Wars universe and it just seems like a really shitty move alienating 90% of your fans just so the new moviegoers don't feel compelled to read The Thrawn Trilogy. I just have this feeling like this was really not necessary at all. Really, who cares if they retcon a few books (or possibly a new era) in the new movies. So long as we have most of the other EU it's fine. And fuck that excuse that it was too 'limiting' to new directors. The Knights of Ren could have easily existed in the past of Star Wars that were just never explored. Look at what happened with the Clone Wars.
Anyways, with that rant over what's some must read/play/etc EU stuff for each era? I've already read/played Clone Wars (animated), Shadows of the Empire (book and game), Tales of the Jedi, and Dark Forces 1 and 2. And I'm reading Paradise Snare right now.

Batman fans- Is George Lucas the Star Wars Bob Kane?
Batman fans- depending how into the series and/or its creation you are, you may know who Bob Kane is. His name is on all the comics, no matter the writer, usually in something that says "BATMAN Created By BOB KANE".
However, this name often makes frequent readers cringe, and many fans will identify Bill Finger as the true creator of Batman. The reason being is that yes, Bob Kane birthed the general idea of a "bat man", but it was barely a concept, and the drawing was not only shit, it was nothing at all like what was shown in Batman's debut.
He then enlisted the help of a writer buddy of his named Bill Finger. Best put by Batman historian Marc Nobleman:
"Bob's original vision included no story of any kind. He drew the first sketches, which Bill then completely overhauled, including pointing to 'bat' in the dictionary and suggesting Batman's cowl resemble [an actual bat]. Finger also wrote Batman's "murdered parents" origin story, as well as the first stories to feature Robin, Catwoman, The Penguin, The Riddler, The Scarecrow, Commissioner Gordon, Gotham City, the batmobile, Batman's secret identity, and the nickname "The Dark Knight." Essentially, Bill Finger gave life to Batman in every sense of the word other than magically transporting himself into one of the comics and impregnating Martha Wayne."
However, Bob Kane rode the "it was my idea" train til death. Bill received very little because of it, and after being fired by DC for allegedly asking for health benefits (a story for another board), he died in poverty.
So, this makes me think. George Lucas gave the base idea for Star Wars. He wrote the script, yeah. But he was not the sole writer of anything. Ralph McQuarrie basically spawned the image of the characters (though many were admittedly stupid concepts when they were created). We all hate George Lucas, blah blah, blah, MUH PRACTICAL EFFECTS, CGI storm, etc, and he has very little to do with Episode VII. Almost ZERO input in the writing or production. Most of the characters we constantly worship in this board- Revan, Thrawn, Bane (canon or not, those last two)- none of them were ever a thought in Lucas' mind. With that we question- Is George Lucas anything but a sick old man who takes way too much glory for a series he, in the big picture, did way too little to grow into a (Galactic) media empire?
(tl;dr, George Lucas doesn't deserve the otherworldly line of credit and worship for the universe of Star Wars he gets, much like Bob Kane is the most unimportant figure DC comics has ever enlisted, but his name is on every Batman comic book. Thoughts?)

Force Awakens’ Expands its Universe, Background Characters
Disney is creating an all-new expanded universe that explores many of the background characters and aliens set to appear in the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” in a series of short stories.
As reported by Entertainment Weekly, the first tale arrives as an eShort on November 24 and focuses on the character of Bazine, who first appeared in a photo spread in Vanity Fair way back in May. Titled “The Perfect Weapon,” the short will be written by Delilah S. Dawson.
An eBook anthology by Landry Walker follows on December 1 titled “Star Wars: Tales from a Galaxy Far, Far Away: Aliens” and tells the story of four background characters from “The Force Awakens.” The stories included are titled “High Noon on Jakku,” “All Creatures Great and Small,” “The Face of Evil” and “The Crimson Corsair and the Treasure of Count Dooku.”
Also in December comes a story by Alan Dean Foster titled “Star Wars: Bait” that focuses on a character named Grumgarr.
However one of the most interestingly titled tales won’t see release until March 29, 2016. Titled “Star Wars: New Republic: Bloodline,” the story takes place six years before the events of “The Force Awakens,”
