Hasn't it been stated before in one book or another that the energy of a lightsaber blade is contained, and therefore doesn't leak in the form of heat? I imagine that if it gave off heat, the blade would be somewhat inefficient, as it would be constantly leaking energy, essentially.

Then again, the Path of the Jedi book states lightsabers can be used to boil liquids.

anyways, my guess is they've put 90% of their resources toward starkiller base since they were created, hence why we have so little variation in anything else.

i fully expect to see new tie fighters in the sequels because of this.

I was speculating that Starkiller was something Sheev commissioned before he asploded. Given a Death Star took around 20 years to build, it seems likely that Starkiller was in the works during the days of the empire. Besides it has Sheev's super weapon fetish written all over it.

I'd love to simply see an upgraded tie bomber with a gunner's seat. that or a special variant with multiple ordenance pods (such as the Tie Interdictor)
